Power out of 98 Prairie 400?
I have a 98 4x4 Prairie 400, I want to get more power out of it without having to get into the motor.I have called EPI and Mike Perland Performance. They didn't know of any aftermarket performance parts that would work on the 97 or 98 Prairie, the parts that do work came out after 98.Does anybody have an answer for me? I don't want to sell it for a bigger machine, this ATV has been great and I would recommend Kawasaki to anybody in a heartbeat!

See if Kawi listed any high altitude clutch springs for your model. That will raise your engagement some. I don't know if you could find a complete drive and driven clutch assembly from a newer machine; the newer style works way better. (I know, I had a '98 myself, and was sick when I drove a '99. The clutching was much better).

You probably could do a few airbox mods to get a K&N and bigger inlet if needed. An offset flywheel key with premium fuel might give you a few more. The driven pulley may allow spring adjustment. If it does, make the spring preload higher. Exhaust is always a possibility.
I think the 400 engine was redesigned in 1999 and has a lot more spank. My bro's 99 doesn't need any more power. Won't beat a 650, but it cranks. Could you trade for a 1999 or newer?
