Why are the carbs heated on the V-Force and is there a way to bypass it. Thanx

Yes there is, I have not done it yet as my VForce is still in the shop after it was almost totaled by a friend of mine.

This is not my page so I will not take credit for this.

They are heated for cold weather. Just plug the hose, the engine wont need that at all. It might allow the strainer or the carb base (plastic part where water flows) to melt if the engine overheats, so keep an eye out.

My strainer melted when no water was going through it.

So is it unsafe for the engine to do this mod since the bottom of the carb can melt, also where you disconnect the tube from the carb what do you put in the tube off of the carb. Thanx

I seriously don't think you will have probs. The strainer may melt, but not the carb base. Just take the strainer.

My strainer melted, but not the carb base. So, go ahead. It is OK.

Won't hurt to leave em open, but better to put a single hose from one connection to the other since mud and dirt would contaminate them in case you ever wanted to plug it in.

BTW that carb heater circuit is actually a bypass for the engine and rad, so technically speaking you will get better cooling by just plugging the fittings on the block and head

The way I understood it, the bowl heaters only work when it is cold. In other words, that section of the coolant loop is only open when it is cold. Like the thermostate in a car, only reversed.?

Well, maybe your is, but mine isn't like that (650).

If the water flow stopped, a hot motor could cause that water in the line to boil (since it would never be cooled). Thus, the strainer would melt. Believe me, I have seen it melt due to a clog. So, I doubt yours is off.

Just block all 4. It isn't needed. It just makes it run better in the cold.
