V-Force Break in

Greetings,
I just finished ride 2 on my new V-Force. I noticed in reading through the manual that a 10 hour break in period is recommended. How crucial is the break in period? Any recommendations other than the "don't exceed 50% throttle.
I think I kept it below at 50% on the first ride but when I got home I ran the throttle limit screw out to limit the throttle to appx 50% travel to force myself to behave.
Second ride got on it pretty good (trying to keep up with two RM 465s) and pegged the throttle at 50% for some decent durations. Mixed in some moderate riding and rest stops inbetween. The fan was working when I stopped for a short rest. I always warm up the bike pretty well with slow increasing to moderate riding for 10 min or so. Same for cool down. Basically heading back to trailer the last 10 minutes go easy and wind it back down in reverse.
To make a short story long......Does the above seem like an OK plan. I don't want to ruin this one. It has to last a long time.

We ALL know what the book says............................. but
my rule is ... don't put bigger jets in till you have more than

I am past that ...(maybe)... and have changed the jets, added
dial-a-jets .... modified the air box ... and will add dual exhaust
mid next week [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

I think the most common sense one that I heard of is to run it at all RPM's but just don't leave it there for extended periods of time. Accelerate, then come back down, don't let it idle forever either. I wanted to go top speed down the road real bad when I first got mine but instead just rode around a track and did some short drags. Up then down. I've heard two tanks of gas. I've heard break it in like you're going to ride it. I've read the manual too. I wish someone would do a scientific study.

A little back ground on me ..... I began earning my living as a heavy equipment
mechanic 35 years ago ...... I have assembled more engines in that time than
I would want to count......
This whole "break in" thing is WAY over blown. When we assemble a new
engine.... we hook it up to a dyno ..... start it up .... let it warm up with out a load ....
... check it for leaks .... put 1/2 load on it for about 30 minutes .... then bring it up
to full load for about 30 minutes.... then take it back to 1/2 load for a while.....
The principle is .... don't over heat it early on.... ie: don't do sustained full loads
during the first tank of fuel... you can apply a burst of speed/load.... then lighten
the load to let it "cool down" before the next burst... .... and you will be fine.
