Upgrade My P-360
#1
I bought a Prairie 360 4X4 last year and I am ready to upgrade. Here is what I like and don't like about it:
LIKE:
Very Confortable ride.
"Feels" stable, I love the position of the seat.
2w/4w selectable
Great Low power, its great on tough rocky steep hills
Price
DONT LIKE:
My other machine is a Honda Rancher 4x4, on the same terrain I had to contantly use the "Locking Lever" on my Kawi while my Honday plowed through on its limited slip.
No high end power/low top speed, its nearly useless on dunes. Its embarasing...its even the slowest machine on trails.
Cost of maintenance, compared to my "Maintenance Free" Honda.
I was going to blindly buy a Rincon, because I love my Honda, but I stumbled on the fact that the Prairie 650 is quite a bit cheaper. I started reading reviews and by all accounts the Kawasaki is a much better machine for the price. Here are my only hangups:
Will I give up reliablility and maintenance costs if I don't go with the Honda?
Will I be unsatisfied with the 650 like I am the 360.
Most of my riding is mountain trails, often times steep and rocky. But during the winter months I take advantage of dune riding where my 360 is useless and my Rancher full time 4X4 is just adequate.
Thanks for your help, it seems the Kawi group isn't as blindly and rabidly loyal as the Honda group, they tend to give more thoughtful answers than; "Its a Kawasaki, thats why."

My couch is more reliable and has less maintenance costs than a honda. However, it is not much fun outdoors. The rincon is also not nearly as fun as the 650.
The 650 is very reliable. The only main difference in maintenance is the belt. Belts require more maintenance than other transmissions. If you have a dealer mechanic that does not know what to do to keep your belt adjusted right, you could spend a lot of money on maintenance, be in the shop a lot, and be very dissatisfied.
-------HOWEVER---------
If the dealer is belt maintenance wise, or you do it yourself (easy) following the belt maintenance guidelines of experienced 650 owners on this forum, your belt should be a non issue. It should go over 2000 miles. So it should cost you extremely little to keep it maintained.
The rincon, from what I have read, does not take kindly to bigger tire or any kind of modification and in some ways breaks easily. That is a lot of money for a less fun quad.
If you are going to go with something less fun than a 650, save your money, I will sell you the couch for $25. Otherwise get the 650.
