Default How do I remove the starter from a Prairie 650?

We are having starter problems with our 2002 Prairie. The starter started making clunking noises and it eventually got so bad, all the starter does is spin. It almost sounds like it chucked the starter gear or blew it into pieces. I started looking at it and got as far as pulling off the front plastic before I realized I need some advice. What do I need to pull off to get the starter out. It looks like the left side cover where the pull starter and water pump sit needs to come off. Is that the case, or is there a simpler way??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

lancems,

Here's what the manual states. Remove intake snorkel duct, joint duct and collars for the clutch air intake(front of the engine, right side of the starter). It looks like this would be easier if you remove the inner right fender and lower trim in front of the right floorboard. This should give you access to the starter and allow you to disconnect the power cable and bolts holding it in place. You don't need touch anything on the left side, once you unbolt the starter it should just pull out to the right .
