I just wanted to thank everyone for such an awesome forum.Due to the things I've read on here I
bought a 02 650 and love it. Please keep the posts coming and don't get burned out.You are helping us
dumb guys more than you know! I bought mine in Tucson Az and it ran unbelievably but its not running as good here at home I think because I'm at 6000' elevation. I think I will try nyrocs exhaust mod and
make a bigger snorkel and see if it runs like it did. Has anyone tried just taking the factory snorkel off
or just cutting it in half to let it breath better? Thanks again for all the info

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your first post.
I think you should rejet first before you try any of the other mods. The change in elevation would definately make a difference. From 3000-6000' Dynojet suggests a 124f & 128r jet. On a chart from shortcut, this would translate into a Keihin 132.5f & 137.5r. Another option if your going to run various elevations, is to install a dial-a-jet which compensates for changes in elevation between your different riding areas. Just thought that if you were happy with the bike at the dealer you might want to get it back to that. If not and your looking for a little more, then a snorkle and exhaust mod will probably give you what your looking for without the jetting change.
Just my 2 cents, enjoy. Again, welcome.

Thanks for the reply-I've got 139f&142r and figured with the intake and exhaust mods that should lean
me out about where I should be.I,m gessing that is what they put in for sea level from the factory but
after mods I'm seeing some guys going to 142f&145r. Where can I get the jet kit you speak of?
I also was thinking about pulling the jet needle and instead of shimming it with washers for a richer mid range machining a couple of new grooves in it to lean it out. The mains only control wide open right?
My bike just does'nt pull off bottom like it did in Az. If you adjust the carb mixture screws will that help
bottom end performance. (I want to be able to punch it and weelie at will again)

Acdelco, you don't want to jet up as you go higher in elevation. Scotia has the right idea. Do your muffler and intake mods first and see how it runs with your stock jets. Your stockers should be 138/142 right now. For your elevation the manual states you should be running 132/138 with no mods. Also, do yourself a big favor and get either the Black or Red secondary clutch spring from E.P.I. They will reduce your belt wear considerably------especially when you scrap those stocker tires and put on a set of 27" mudlites on c-series (just a suggestion!!!!!)

ac,
I have a dynojet kit installed in mine, your dealer or any aftermarket company should have no problem locating that for you. It comes with several jetting choices and adjustable needles. This gives me great bottom end and mid but the down side is paying for all those extra jets that you don't need. LOL Air mixture screws control starting and low speed response, needles control just off idle to about 1/4-1/2 throttle and the mains control from there up. Guys are going up on the mains when doing the mods because of the lower altitude. I think that if your planning these mods on your bike that the stock jetting would be better for you. I don't think you can lean out the stock needle as the collar is all the way to the top already, but again, the stock setting should work fine. You may have to play with the air screws to get the bike just right for your elevation. Also, if your looking for hugh wheelie power consider a power module, just install and smile. I also agree with mastrblastr, one of your first mods should be a black secondary spring.
Hope this helps, if you want more, ask away.

I tried to get jets from my dealer today but he said he'd have to order them.I got the feeling that since I didn't buy the bike from him he could care less if it ran or not.Anyway I think you guys are right that if I do the mods the factory jetting will be about right.I pulled the snorkel off just to try without it and walla I could wheelie again! These things need air really bad! I put the snorkal back on just to see if it was all in my head but nope...... no more wheelies. I think I need some kind of snorkal though because it makes loud sucking noises without one. I ordered the black spring and will get tires as soon as I wear these out. I'm hoping the exhaust mod will give me as much gain as the snorkal mod did. Any consensus on what size holes to drill? 6 -5/8 -1/2 -3/8?
My brother came over to ride the new quad and wasn't on it 5 minutes and rolled itBent the front rack and cracked the front fender........makes you sick at your stomach! I havent even got to make one payment on it yet!
thanks for the good advice..........keep the handle bars on the up side

AC, another thing you might want to consider is an aftermarket airfilter. I put a Unifilter on mine and it has given me a definite power gain. All these little mods add up and that is where you get all your juice. Once you mod your muffler, install your snorkle, mod your airbox, and get your jetting spot on, you won't believe it's the same machine.
Oh, I have six 1/2 inch holes in my muffler with the end cap bored out to 1 1/2 inch. Other guys have as many as twelve 1/2 inch holes. Some guys have six 3/8 holes. It's pretty much your own discretion, but remember---more holes=more flow.
