Default idle screw?

To me this sounds weird but here it is:
havn't been on my bike for the last 4 weeks and it got a lot warmer here in the four weeks and when I went for a ride the bike was hard to start ran like $@(*$ (like a honda). So I asked my brother because he had it out last weekend and he said it was running about the same. So I thought maybe I should open it up etc.. nothing worked. Now I smell gas so I turned back my idle screw and BANG it came back to life. I never experienced this before because I constanty set my idle on the bike after it's warmed up. What I don't get is it was flooding it's self however it was reving low.
