Default Snorkle??

when installing a snorkle do you have to cut a big hole in the airbox? and am I correct in assuming it runs up btween the handlebars in the covered area? Does it help enough to warrant doing it? Im new on the mods so please bare with me if my questions seem dumb?

If you are talking about the Diamond G snorkle, it is a direct replacement for the restrictive stock snorkle, no cutting necessary. It flows much better than the stock one, but I didn't notice a marked improvement in performance.

If you are talking about a custom snorkle for deep water riding, these have to be fabricated yourself out of PVC pipe, and it can be quite involved.
