LT 80 "MOORE" Speed Mods
#1
I recently found a great deal on a 98 LT80 here in Ohio and couldnt resist the temptation to buy it for my boys. We've always been 2 wheel kind of guys but a quad in the snow/mud seems like fun for all five boys....
After my purchase and even though I doubt any of my boys will ever competetively race this machine, I looked for mods to max it out and make it keep up with our ttr90 and I read great reviews about Jack Moore and his LT80 mods doubling horsepower... When disassebling my new to me LT80, I broke an exhaust stud that was rusted solid, and then broke an easy-out...
so... this brings me to the topic at hand.
When searching for a used cylinder, I found one inscribed "1-17-03 Moore"
. I knew right away that I had found gold... it looked really good but honestly all I could see was the inscription... I'd hoped to buy a new piston and rings and pop it in... Anyway, it needs to be reworked as it's a bit out of round and has some hot spots. I'd like to find Jack and ask his opinion on a few things and see if he will rework it and assist with some of the other mods. I tried to call a number from an old thread to no aveil.
Can anyone put us in touch? JACK ARE YOU OUT THERE? I'd rather send this stuff to you for your expertise and get it done right than overpay my local machine shop.
My intended mods:
bore to 51mm, hone and chamfer, re-polish (need help)
90 main jet (ordered)
4 rollers front clutch and variator (need help)
180g rear clutch shoes (need help)
5" spacers up front (done)
rear wheels reversed for more width (done)
boyesen reeds (done)
new front and rear wheel bearings (ordered)
new king pin bushings etc. (done)
new starter (done)
new battery (done)
new tires ???
clean stock exhaust, repaint and remove drain bolt (done)
What are the carb mods? are these necessary?
What are the reed cage mods? are these necessary?
What mods am I missing?
Thanks in advance for any insight...
