Default 80 Running Great - Suddenly Dies with NO Spark?

Hey guys - finally got the kids LT80 running really good, and today he was zooming around the land, when suddenly it just shut off - died on the spot. No sputtering, no misfires, just shut off.

I checked the petcock and I am getting fuel through to the carb. I checked the circuit breaker in back, and it is working fine.

It cranks, and spins like a top, but will not fire, so I pulled the spark plug boot off, and NO SPARK!? Is there some type of bump or jolt activated ignition kill or cut off switch on these?

I know now that I probably need to tear into the ignition, but in my experience with cars, usually it gives some warning before just dying completely...

I did check for loose wires and such, and found none. The only thing I noticed was the wires to the ignition box seem pretty rough and worn...no exposed wires, just look like they have gotten hot or rubbed on something at some point. I may look for a new ignition wiring harness just to replace that.

Let me know what you think would be the problem if one minute it was running great, then shuts off completely with no spark.

This is my quick reply, I'll think on it..
Maybe the stator wire came undone under the hood?

Default and the bad news is...

I took it to a local Suzuki dealer in a small town near me, and he just called me with the bad news....

He said the entire wiring harness is fried, melted, and he cant tell from what.

He said that he thinks everything (cdi box, coil, etc.) also needs replaceing.

Parts and labor to repair - ESTIMATE - $725 + tax.

It ran great when I first got it, and it cost me only $500.00.

Should I just go get it and work on hopefully finding good used parts, or just bite the bullet and get it fixed?

This was a 13th birthday present for my son, back in July, and now he is heart-broken about all this...he got a whopping month use out of his birthday present....I feel like a turd!

Any advice is appreciated. Anyone got a used wiring harness?

I am about to just go buy a new one, with a warranty!

I seen some wiring harnesses on ebay it would'nt be that big of a deal to swap out.I would'nt think everthing is toast but I could be wrong. There are several people on this site that are very knowledgeable on the LT80 that could probably tell you how to check if the parts are still good.Hope everthing goes well.
