my brother has just purchased a 1990 suzuki LT80 quad for his grandson.it has an electric start and starts very well in warm weather.
However any time the mercury drops below zero it simply will not start.if kept in a warm garage overnite,no problem.
Otherwise as mentioned it has starting problems in cold weather.
any troubleshhoting tips would be appreciated!!

Just got my new Zuki LT80 and it starts great. It's only about 30 to 40 when it's cold in this part. I don't know about zero, but at 40 or so, I pull the choke and mine cranks right up and purrs like a kitten. You may need some help from the dealer if you are that cold there. They may have to rejet it. Good Luck, I love ours. Congrats on the new purchase!!

Sounds like your choke is not working properly.Pull the air cleaner off at the carb and just cover the opening of the carb with your hand. Now try cranking it up,it should start up right away if the choke is your problem. Also maybe do a compression test to see if its still got lots of compression. It doesn''t have any valves to adjust, its a two stroke.

I have a 2002 LT80. On mine there is a valve on the fuel line coming from the gas tank. The valve allows you to turn the gas line to "ON" or "PRIME". Try turning yours to prime(if you have the valve) and then start it with the choke on. The choke is a little black pull up switch on the left top side of motor. Good luck, tell us how you make out.

This is common.
Oldyeller gave great advise. I don't run the boot clamp on the front of the carb for that reason.
BSB64 has a good idea also!
If all else fails, use WD-40 as a starting fluid (spray can). When we raced in the cold a can of WD was essential.
FYI: don't use a bean oil in cold weather! It separates.
