Default lt80 chain and sprockets!! aargh!!

Ok I bought a 13T front sprocket and ofcourse the stock chain is too short. So I made another chain 1 link longer and it's way too loose. I even installed a 14T I had just too see if it would help and it's still way too loose. I even looked at putting a chain roller on it but it seems like it would have to be put on very high to obtain correct tension. Has anyone else corrected this problem without going to the 428 sprockets? Or should I go bigger on the rear sprocket? What size do I need to go with the 13T or 14T to get the chain right?

Did you look at the cahin roller pic?
If not go back till you find the post "LT80's chain roller"
This is what sucks about the 520 chain. 428 chain will be no better. I use 40 chain and 428 sprockets cuz there are 1/2 links available for the 40 chain.

Actually I just finished my own roller set-up. But I put my roller on the top. If you notice when the rear wheels turn the chain is tight on the bottom already. So I put my roller on top of the chain. With enought slack where it rolls real nice.

I just put a 12 tooth on ours and had the same problem. I did not like the way a roller would work on ours. I don't know quite how lt80's roller was made, because it sure wouldn't have looked like that on ours. I would have had to either put the roller under the chain on the bottom, but then it would have pushed it up way to high like Voodoo said, or if I put it on top of the chain, it would hve been lower than what the skid plat would have allowed. I ended up using a half link for a #50 chain and modifing it alittle. It still is not quite as tight as it probably should be, but it's not bad.

Do they make aftermarket chain and sproket kits to lower the ratio? or do you have to rig up a chain roller? I would like to get more bottom end out of m sons LT80

More bottom end?! If your motor is stock, thats a first. In stock form I consider the LT80 to grunt hard.
Adding a roller is not hard you buy a roller, a longer bolt, and some washers. You need to drill a hole.
You can lower the gearing with a bigger rear sprocket, smaller front, or go to smaller tires (most like the shorter tires anyways).

Well we ride mostly at the pismo dune's and I think the quad could use a little more bottom end so he doesent have to get a long run at a hill to climb it. I guess putting a roller wouldnt be that big a a deal. I'm also going to buy some paddles this week what size should I get Skat trak makes a 18x8.5x8 or they also make a 16x8x7 would those be to small?

The 15t will make more speed, not bottom end like he wants.
You'll need to get the 8 inch wheel paddles.I think they are a 5 paddle design. That should lower the gearing going to those.
