lt80 running like choke is on.

forgive me for my lack of mechanical jargon. But our lt 80 is either running super rich or lien. No low end power and takes quite awile to achieve top speed. Any suggestions on where I can begin to look would be appreciated.

air filter clean? Lousy gas? plugged exhaust? Check you're plug, that'll tell you if you're rich or lean.
Read this about plugs......

Cleaned the air filter and checked the brand new plug that I had put in 2 weeks ago. the plug was very black with a heavy build up around the tip. The threads had a wet oil type substance. I had noticed that at the exhaust outlet there was a buildup of black residue. Ok. I know this is a dumb question but is that 2 rich or 2 lean and after Ive determined that how do I adjust it. thanks for the help.

Definitely rich, the residue in the end of the exhaust is typical. There should be a drain plug on the exhaust, remove it and make sure there is no buildup inside the exhaust. Other possibilities are Jetted too rich, old injection oil. How old is the quad? Have you checked the compression? Also, check the fuel switch make sure it is turned to "on" not "prime". Tell us more. Someone will figure it out, LOL.
I'm defintely no expert here, just trying to help.

MY scrambler 50's spark plug was foul, (would not start anymore) so I put a new one in and within about 10 minutes it was acting like it was fouling the plug again. So now the 80 and the 50 are having this too rich problem. So I drained the gas and put new gas in both quads. Could all this be caused by bad gas? they both seem to run ok now. after new plugs and gas. Ill have the kids ride them tommorow and Ill check the plugs after they have ridden them for awile. I just didnt think that gas can cause a 2 stroke to run too rich. The gas I had used was from my tank on my toy hauler. It certainly wasnt very old but the tank was or is near empty. thanks for the help.
