How fast is your Lt50????
#12
I've heard the older Lt50's were faster than the new ones. I've never driven a new one but my son has an 83 ALT50 and an 86 LT50 and they both go just under 20 with the exhaust restrictor removed. It will spin out on loose gravel with my son on it if he hammers it and leans forward. He can also do some pretty cool dognuts in the snow.

We clocked my sons 2001 lt-50 18 mph with a radar gun. I never removed any restricters. Where are the restricters located on the lt-50 (I am very mechanically challenged so please explain as simple as poss)?

We let our dealer talk us into one of these little machines,02 lt 50, and THEY ARE GREAT TO LEARN ON. I researched making them faster and it would have ended up costing me more to modify it than buying a good used lt 80( which physically in ergo's they are not much bigger ) you can shave the head, port and polish , file the top of the carb slide , rejet, buy an after market exhaust(there are a couple of companies now that make a full system) stroke and bore and change the gearing. Fact is though that the little lt's suspension is not up to traveling to much faster than 20mph. Do all of this and it might gain a little in mph but dependability might fly south for the winter. Also remeber that the 50 has a single speed tranny that limits it to around 17-20mph buy a quadzuki(LT 80).
hddadx4 if you clocked yours at 18 mph than I'd bet you do not have the restrictors installed anymore. Some dealers will remove the restrictors before you pick it up. You will know if you have restictors because it won't want to start easily and will run like it is foulng the spark plug. If you want to check it you pull off the exhaust and there would be a washer in the pipe pull that out , next you take off the carb and mine had a restictor in intake side.
