Default First Post and Breeze questions.

Hi there, I bought a 2003 Breeze for my daughter today. The owner said and it appears to be the case that it's still nearly new. Only problem that I can find is the front brakes squeaking, and in looking over the board it appears that the brakes are a problem for all breezes. However, with the low miles on this one I wouldn't think that they need to be replaced yet, any ideas? Also, any advice on things I need to watch for would be appreciated. Anyone with a breeze who wants to chime in and let me know how they like them are welcome. Cool board! Thanks!

Being new and "used" from a previous owner, the brakes may NOT have been broke in properly. Hopefully, you also got a manual with your new unit. I think the phase is "burn in" the brakes when freshly installed and/or on a new unit. Wonder if the previous owner did that to your new Breeze??? Could explain why your brakes squeek.

Other things to focus on your new unit are:

--------------------------------------

First Time Riders – Initial Inspection / Adjustment Checklist.

Fresh from the dealer:

1. Check and adjust the tire pressure & chain.
2. Check that the rear valve stems are facing outwards.
3. Pull the rubber hub nut caps and verify cotter keys are in. All wheels.
4. Pull air box cover and verify the air filter has been serviced and oiled.
5. Inspect cable routing.
6. Make sure R.P.M.'s don't increase as handle bars are turned.
7. Adjust front brake lever/cable to where it works for the rider.
8. Verify tether kill switch works.
9. Make sure it smokes, this tells you the oil injection system is functional.
10. Check fuel, and oil tank levels.
11. Ride it first yourself.
12. Apply all of these responses and common sense and your riding!
13. All Personal Protective Equipment should be worn before riding.
14. Go over all controls with Rider.

I would purchase another spark plug and chain lube. Read the owners manual on chain adjustment this will be almost the first thing you have to do, mechanically.

--------------------------------------

Note: above was a cut / paste info from a previous posting.

Hope this helps...

Thanks! Yep, pretty much common sense it looks like. Got the manual, extra key....didn't know about the kill tether and didn't get it. My girl is 11 but has been riding my Rancher 350 for a few years now, and handles it pretty well. However, now that she is getting old enough to ride with me supervised I wanted to get something more her size to be going up and over trails. I didn't see anything while doing a quick scan of the manual about speed limiting or governor. Did I miss it or is it not in the manual. I've read about a screw up by the throttle in other posts here, so I'll look for that tomorrow. I paid $2100 for the bike, considering condition and age I thought I did alright.

Breeze is a 4-stroke, so you won't see smoke or have to worry about injection. Being a 125cc aimed at teenagers/wives, doubt there ever was a tether on these, and I doubt it has a throttle limiter (maybe '03 does..?? NOT SURE). Should be easy to see on the right handlebar/thumb throttle area if there is one.

Overall, they're very well made. I don't understand why Yamaha, the kings of shaft-drive, went with chain drive on this one, especially considering the market they were after with this one. Nothing wrong with that, other than lots more maintenance.

Enjoy, if you look after your maintenace (frequent air-filter check and clean, chain.. all the stuff spike99 suggested), it should run problem free for years. Valve adjustment may be necessary down the road/fairly soon. Ask Yamaha what they recommend, I think it's supposed to get the valves adjusted after 20-40 hours of use/ 300 miles. Many say, "Bah, humbug" to that. The Yamaha forum is also good for this unit cuz you're in between sizes on this one.
