between the sprockets, close as you can eyeball to the middle. push down on chain. there should be about 1" of deflection. if you held a straight edge on chain, it should go down about an inch from the straightedge. also, raise quad and rotate the chain all the way around. you'll find a couple of spots where the chain is tighter as you rotate the wheels. at the tightest point is where your check/adjustment should be made for 1" of freeplay (between the sprockets again).
