Default 2005 Viper 90R Question

I just received my new Viper I bought online. The Viper 90R stalls when I go from neutral to reverse or neutral to forward if the throttle is pressed first.

Example 1: I start the viper up in neutral(while holding the brake lever in) without pressing the throttle. If i shift to reverse or forward..it will be fine.

Example 2: If I start the Viper in neutral(while holding the brake in) then press the throttle to rev it up a bit, then shift to forward(holding brake in) or reverse....it will stall every time

Example 3: I ride the Viper ..then I have to back up. I shift to neutral, then to reverse..it stalls out.

Basically, every time throttle is pressed at all, you can't then shift to forward or reverse without stalling.

I did call the dealer I bought from online and he stated it must be some sort of safety feature...but he was not convincing and it seemes he really did not know.

anyone have a clue what is going on and how I can fix this problem???

Default 2005 Viper 90R Question

I just got one for my kid too and it does the same thing. One of the safety features is that the bike will die if you try to shift into gear with the rpms too high. The problem is that after the throttle is pressed the first time, it won't come back down to normal idle rpms unless you kill it and restart it. I have noticed that if you turn the headlights on, they seem to put just enough of a load on the motor to make it come back down to idle. I don't understand it, but I figured I'd get it through the "break in" period and see if the problem is still there. The bike seems to be flawless otherwise, so for now we just ride with the headlights always on.

Default 2005 Viper 90R Question

Just turn the idle screw down a bit(counterclockwise)...it's the gold screw on the carburator. That solved the problem for me. Nowwhen I press the throttle, it revs up, then back down to a lower idle so you can shift.
