Lt 80 wont start
#1
my sons 80 quite about 6 months ago. I had the topend rebuilt and then my honda 450 bent the output shaft so I havnt messed with his 80 in along time. It has been sitting in the garage and I have for a week been trying to get it to start and it wont.. If I put my hand behind his exhaust it dosnt have much pressure. of course the guy that rebuilt it says there is no warrenty now...
Any help would be great

Yea he rode it like 2 times then I stored it. It just turns over and over. the plug look like it had some gas on it when I pulled it out. If you give it gas while trying to start it makes a diff. sound like its trying but it aint firing. I guess

Did the plug produce spark? All lt 80's make a noise when you apply the throttle while the engine is tourning over. Check the air box maybe a mouse got in there and built a nest or maybe a clogged filter. If your bike sat long enough then the fuel could have laquered or gummed up. Drain all the fuel from the gas tank and out of the float bowl, change the spark plug and clean your air filter.

try what quadduck said first. I always start simple then go from there. did you remember to engage the right footbrake safety switch? make sure kill switch is off ( I know those are simple, but easy to forget after 6 months).did you pull fuel line off at carb to make sure you're getting flow from the tank to carb?
low compression definitely will not let you start it either, but i'd confirm that with a compression test. LT80 ( Jack) knows the proper min. spec on compression to get started. yours should still be great if you just had a top end rebuild. But if comp. is too low, it won't start.

Good replies fellas
I like the spark question.
Does it have spark?
a lil trick:: sometimes you have to remove the boot off the front of the carb and use 2 fingers and hand choke it. But if your plug is in fact wet, that's not it.

Its getting spark. I hooked some jumper cables up to the blazer and it turned over alot faster felt some comp. dont know how to measure how much. I drained all the fuel and unhooked the hose going to the carb. The fuel came out really slow so I unbolted the fuel-reserve/off/primary tryed cleaning it but it looks good. I dont know about unbolting the carb theres alot of little pieces. I know the kill switch is off because with it on the motor wont turn over. ANY OTHER SUGG.?????

When we are refering to spark we mean the end of the spark plug having electricity "sparking". You can check for spark by pulling the spark plug cap and taking out the old plug, reinsert the plug into the cap and touch it against the frame, while holdin it against the frame try to turn the motor over, if there is not a blue spark then change the plug and recheck, if still no spark then you will probably be better off to take it to some one who can test your electrical componets. No offense but you might be better off by having someone else check it and if I misunderstood your knowledge and mechanical abilities then I apologize, I'm not trying to sound rude.
