wider track on lt80

Confused,
We are in the Puget Sound/Seattle Area Riders thread of Where To Ride.
Come on over, let us know what dates you may be coming through and we'll plan something.
Capitol Forest will closed that time, so Tahuya would be the best. Plus Tahuya would be better for the whole family
Be careful on that OneFlyCowboy
He goes one speed and one speed only LOL, and that would be full thottle
Good Luck keeping up with him
OK, to keep on topic...............
I think I'm just going to get the wheel spacers all the way around for our LT80, see how that does first.
Plus new tires for the back, a little flatter ones than the round stock tires ....

Ok back on topic. As confused had stated earlier I widened my sons LT80 the do it yourself method. Here is the old message cut and pasted. Here is a link to the previous thread Widening thread.
Here is did to mine to widen the front. I flipped the wheels, plugged the old valve stem holes with JBWeld and drilled two new ones on the oposite side. That gained me an inch per side. Next I knocked out the wheel studs and put in 3" long bolts and two nuts per bolt on the wheel side as spacers. I had to grind a little off the sides of the head of the bolts so they would fit in the stud slot. This gained me one and a half inches. Total gain per side 2.5 inches. Total cost 6 dollars. Total time 2 hrs. I can probibly get photos if you need them. Let me know.

Fishslab:
Outside of cost have you considered the James Lucky kit too widen the front end? The LT80 in stock form is "to" narrow in the front end. The James Lucky front kit, while not cheap (Aprox $150.00) is a good way to get a more stable handling quad. As a rule, for better handling your front track (width) should always be wider than your rear track. To me it was the single best bolt I did for our LT80 to improve stability.

Been in discussion with a guy on another website (Mainly racing) over his lt80's handling problems after changing a-arms... I understand it handled like a wild horse... I suspect there are adjustment issues on castor/camber/toe in etc... but has anyone had any issues crop up by doing the wider bolt/reversed wheel method?

I have the 6" James Lucky widdening kit and 2 1/2" wheel spacers on my son's LT80. This makes it 11" widder than stock. I beleive it measures about 41" inches across the front. Widdening it this far did kick the top of the front tires in pretty good. To compensate I bought a set of Kasea 90 shocks and put them on the front. It straightened the tires up pretty nice, but the front end is kind of on the soft side. Being as it's only raced on TT tracks (99% smooth) the soft front end hasn't been a problem. What I probably need to get stiffer shocks at the same length. At some point I may need to order a custom set of shocks that are stiffer.
