Man. I hope you aren't referring to me, because calling someone from West Texas a hillbilly is like calling someone from New York City a cowboy!

My daughter started riding a Suzuki LT160 and it's worked out really good. This quad like the ones you are looking at has an adjustable throttle limiter so you can prevent them from going too fast. The LT160 is a 4 stroke = a lot less maintenance then a 2 smoker. It also has enough power and size that they wont out grow it for 5 or 6 years. I weigh 235lb and this will do over 40 with me on it. It has a 5 speed transmission so you can teach your kid how to shift while they are young. These are "real" quads, but Suzuki has stopped making them. My bro in law has two and I have the one, neither of us has had any maintenance issues yet. You can still find them, but they'll set you back about 3 grand.

Are you out of your skull? Get a small machine. Smaller the better. Exspect to buy a new one every year. My boy can put his foot inside my cowboy boots and he can walk around but that doesn't meant they fit!

Stay away from both? Your kidding, right? Both of those quads are at the top for dependability and low maintaince. They are high in price compared to the brands listed by spike when purchasd new but used they can be found for a bargin. You can use both of those atvs for yard duty and not have to worry. If you plan on your child riding in the dunes, racing, or riding less than easy trails I would say to go with the E-TON 50 or even maybe 70 if your buying new. You will end up with people telling you to purchase a 80 or a 90, just make sure your child is ready no matter what you put them on. I'd stay with the big 4 and e-ton for your choices, How much fun can they have when your waiting for parts?

YES stay away from them!!!!! What is it with you Quadduck????

They are far underpowered than the brands that spike and I stated. Have you read the any of the complaints about these machines and owners are totally PO'ed with the fact that they thought the "Big name Brand" and their kid uses it for about an hour and the Dam quad can't get out of it's own way??? take a look see what others have to say then come on here and tell this guy to go spend way more on the "BIG NAME BRAND" that's genius.

and Yes I can back my statment up. A friend of ours bought the HellT50 for his daughter. Needless to say it was banished from the home after about 3 months.
You know why the big named brand mini-quads can be found used for a bargin??? Because they sucked!!!! Thats the truth!!!

Soimcrazy,
Look into the eton you will not be disapointed by any means. Kasea/LRX, DRR & dinli 50's are great bikes also.
The Eton does come in a 70cc which is the perfect solution for the kid that is in between the 50 and the 90.
Look around and see what other Eton owners are saying about their machine's. Then look into what others have to say about the BIG NAME BRAND 50....trust you will be surprised how quickly they are being sold.

Whatever you get make sure your little one is all safety geared up and well supervised.

Goodluck

PARTS???? you are losing it quadduck. There are people, dealers on these forums that can have your parts shipped to your door within days. Most dealerships will take about 5days -2 weeks for non-stocked parts. Where do you get your info from. try trolling around the mini forums and see what i am talking about before you give people answers. off the top of my head i could name about 5 dealers that get him parts right now. REPUTABLE dealers that cater to the mini's. These quys are great and have helped out alot of us on this and other forums. try calling the "Big brand dealer" and see how much free advice they are willing to give out to you. Stay away from the so called "big named brand" for your mini!!!!

Well, he did say those Kawasuki micro-mini's could be found used for a bargain. Wonder why that is?

Would say they're a $1600 FisherPrice, but at least the Powerwheels can make it up the driveway!

soimcrazy,

Just wondering how your research is coming along???

When I performed my investigation / selection process for my son, it took me over 3.5 months. So many brands, so many different features, so many different considerations and so much different opinions. At times, I got "down right" frustrated. If you can, take your time and pick what brand / size is right for for you and your "young rider". In the end, your search time will be a good thing in the long run....

Talk about researching, you can also use the "Search" engine on this forum to review historical posts. For example, Search for "extreme" brand, Search for "safety upgrades", etc. etc. The info in this Forum may help explain why the Raptor 50 (or a different brand) has known suspension problems.

Hope this helps...

.

Go with the LT 80. You won't be disappointed. Very moderate power with the all the safety measures, but can be given quite a boost when removed as your child grows older. It also has quite a few aftermarket mods and is proven to be reliable. The only complaints I can think of is the LT 80 is a little narrow and needs nerfs to catch little feet.

My nephew has an LT-80. For around the yard and minor trails, that thing is great. After he broke his wrist (from a roll over from too tight of a corner), they 1.5" installed wheel spacers on it. If / when you do purchase a mini, also investigate if wheel spacers are needed (for your type of riding conditions). After his parents installed wheel spacers on his LT-80, he now slides into corners with tipsy less risk. If wondering, I'm in the midst of trying to install 1.5" wheel spacers on our '03 Pred-90. I can't wait to receive and install them on all 4 of my son's tires.

Soimcrazy: What ever brand & size you do pick, try to get your kid involved in the selection process. I'd never go out and "surprise purchase" a car for my wife. If she's driving it, she also has a major say in its many features, colour, style, etc. that she wants. To me, a "young rider" with experience should have partnership involvement in deciding what they like (or don't like) as well...
