Default 2001 polaris scrambler 90 problem

Check around the head, base and exhaust gaskets for any air leaks. We had the same kind of problem and after alot of messing around with the carb i sprayed carb cleaner around the motor and i found a leak around the exhaust. Ours was a broken weld below the flange on an aftermarket pipe. I think somewhere else i read your compression was low it should be around 100-120 stock. Its possable you might have a blown gasket. I would also check the reeds for damage. Keep us all posted

My sons pred 90 did the same thing so we cleaned the air cleaner and put in a new spark plug and fixed the problem for us. The old plug had alot of carbon. Would try that before you tear the whole thing apart.

Update on polaris 90. I have changed the fuel filter, plug (which was just fine), new gas, cleaned the carb and checked the air filter. I tryed it last night after the new plug and it ran just fine the shop. I drove it for 10 minutes, no problem. Opened the door and drove it out and it went 200' and lost power. Do these things just not like cold weather??? it was about 20 degrees.

If the cold weather is causing a lean condition it will fall on it's face. Try place some tape over a portion of the intake snorkle. Again, make sure there are not leaks around the intake boot. Spray around the boot (both side of carb) with starter fluid when the quad is at idle. If the rpms go up, you've found the problem.

Something else I thought of. I replaced the fuel lines on mine (with auto gas lines) because the stock lines kinked really easy. Might make sure there aren't any in yours.

DId you adjust the float?
If you can sit there and run it and when you move it, it quits running, it is most likely the float.
2nd turn the carb upside down and look at the float is it level?
3rd if not level put a screwdriver on the metal part on the float and geltly bend the piece until it is level.
4th reassemble and put carb back on

can someone tell me what might be causing our 2001 90 scrambler to have no power when it has a load on motor but if you lift the wheels off the ground and rev it it revs without a problem? I have no clue what it is. It idles fine and sounds fine until you go to go and it just boges down.

Not familiar with your machine but if it was running in a warm shop and not outside when cold I would say it is to lean. When you take it outside it will take a minute to use all the warm air in the breather and to cool intake system. Also from what I have seen these carbs are all vented to atmospheric pressure and not the air box (like on a snowmachine). This will change float bowl pressures. Easiest way to check is if you have a manuall chock. Pull the chock out and see how it works, adjust as needed. If it runs better with chock on you could adjust idle air screw and raise needle to richen all except full throttle. If your carb has a pilot jet you could change that to richen the whole throttle curve.

Go to a 6HS plug and rejet for cold weather only if -5 or lower drain carb from bottom drain and always use super gas it should fix if not the stator is gone.
My sons 03 did same thing this fixed it Ok

MY daugthers 2005 pred 50 does the same thing. You start it and at first it will run fine and then you try to rev it past idle and it dies. If you give it half choke it will run and then shut the choke off and it seems to run fine. I have checked the fuel filter and line, the carb, plug and air cleaner and still does it. I even put some 110 octane race gas in it and still same problem. My sons pred 90 runs with no problems. If anyone can help let me know.
