2001 polaris scrambler 90 problem
I just purchased a 2001 scrambler 90 and it starts and idles fine but when my daughter takes off it goes about 100' and dies. I have been looking at all the threads on this and was wondering if there was anything new or do I start at the plug and go to the carb and wiring???

Runs great for 1000' then dies???
When you say it dies, do you mean its suddenly stops, or do you mean it putters out like it isn't getting enough gas??
Could also be a pinched gas tank vent line / hole or a pinched gas line or an inline gas filter. Could also be an incorrect setting on the float.
Last time we took our Pred-90 out (doing donuts on the ice), its engine "sputtered" at its top end. Checked the plug and it was loaded with carbon. Signs of too much oil. I also installed a hotter plug as well. Raptorlegs pointed out that I was running too much oil in my gas. I'm thinking the 10 degrees below freezing had something to do with it as well. LOL!!!
How's your plug look? It should be beer bottle brown. Is your temperature dramatically different this time of year as well? Each of these things have an influence on "dies at top end".
To read your plug, surf:

On an E-Ton brand, I also once read about their Spark Arrestor / Muffler being full of carbon. You may want to check that "carbon & crud" holder on your unit as well.
Hope this helps as well....

First things first. Add fuel. Turn fuel on. Take your fuel line off the carb and make sure you're getting a steady flow to the carb. Make sure your airbox lid is attached properly and that the carb has not moved from the intake boot (no gaps or cracks). Make sure nothing is clogging the exhaust. Then disassemble the carb and hose it down with cleaner. Pay particular attention to the float and anything that may obstruct it's movement. Make sure the main jet is clear.
All stock, right?

Take the carb off the bike and take the bowl off of the bottom of the carb.
1st check for dirt like the guys said
2nd turn the carb upside down and look at the float is it level?
3rd if not level put a screwdriver on the metal part on the float and geltly bend the piece until it is level.
4th reassemble and put carb back on
hope this works.. It did for my sons scrambler 90 did the same thing

2001 polaris scrambler 90 problem
I just bought a 90 scrambler off a friend for my son and iam having problems as well. Mine backfires and will not idle up or down from the adjtment screw. it only backfires when i half throttle and when it lets down it seem like it builds up and pops loud. ive replaced the fuel filter and also the plug with a good carb claening. iam stumped as well. ive been looking into this for weeks and going crazy. The machine doesnt sound right as well, not a smooth exuast sound more like a pup pup coming from exuast. any feed back would be great. also what is the compressing rating. Thanks, Mark keep in touch on what you find. grasstomud@yahoo.com
