Default predator 90 question

How does your Predator do on the low end? Can it go slow over technical terrian without being reved to generate power? Are you happy with it? I'm considering a Sportsman 90.

Default predator 90 question

My son is very happy with his '03 Pred-90. We only do trail riding with our mini. In stock form, it has lots of bottom end zip. Can rooster tail mud 10 feet in the air with no effort. Can even lay rubber for 5 feet on the cement floor with 5lbs in its rear tires. To give our unit even more bottom end spin and better throttle control on our technical trails, we changed its sprockets and chain. 39T in rear and 18T in the front. It gave it more spin, especially for doing donuts.

Are "we" happy with our Pred-90???? Wish it had Reverse and was more water proof. The Pred-90 has an open CVT and doesn't like water above its running boards, or too much splashing in water. Other brands of open CVT minis can handle water much better - over the long run.

Would we purchase a new '05 Pred-90, if we had the cash? Yes probably would. Each company makes minis better every year and I'm sure the newer Pred-90s are better built in many areas. Talk about making minis better, you may want to check out the new E-Ton, Kasea, Extreme and the future release of the Dinli Brand. I hear they got some nice features in their new designs. But if your heart is already set on a Pred-90, it "should" keep your young rider happy for many dry type trail riding conditions....

Hope this helps....

Default predator 90 question

The Predator is the same as the Sportsman 90, but different plastic. Correct? If so, then are the Sportsman 90's sprockets different so it runs better through terrain that demands slower speeds to negotiate technical riding?

Default predator 90 question

Psycmike,

Sorry. My words are sometimes very confusing.

The Pred-90 "pure stock" with factory sprockets are made for general riding conditions. Just like all other 2-strokes with CVT trannys. "Can the Pred-90 go slow over technical terrian without being reved?". Yes it can. Lighter the rider the better. If you want to make it better for technical tight &/or sharp slow corner riding conditions, then change its sprockets. But as pure stock is works ok too.

Here's another item... Can its back 6" rear bumper (if one can all it that) be used to manually pull it out of the deep mud or backwards? Yes it can. To make it better, install a rear push / pull bar. For a few pennies, it makes it much better.

Hope this helps...

Default predator 90 question

Spike99:
How are those sprockets to replace? Costly? Also, is there anyway to essentially waterproof those CVT's so the are more reliable in the water? Is that Predator holding up well? Any mechanical problems you've had to deal with?

A handful of questions, I know.

Default predator 90 question

i am very impressed with 05 pred!!! my son is 5 years old and about4' tall and about 45 lbs...i started riding him on my 400ex when he was about 3 to 3 1/2 and bought him his own at about 4 1/2 .... .he started on the same frame and tranny shocks etc. only this one was a 50cc...some other name....this 90 with reverse has preformed very well on the trails and the track....after about 2 days of full riding i fully ungoverned it for him....plenty of get up and go..and as he gets older (better) the mods are available...he loves it... as far as the reverse goes...some dont like it for track and mx...but whatever...reverse is awsome! no more getting off pushing back....picking up and turning around...well worth it... now the 50cc is okay for little ones and can do fairly well on trails just as long as there arent too steep of hills...i would recommend this machine to anyone thats looking!!! just as long as their kid is supervised(never out of sight ) and can handle this little beast!
