Sounds like I need to get with you on my boy's Viper, lt80. How long does it take to work the motor over like that?

Hey lt80!! I was just wondering what kind of tools/ machines you use when building these little things? I mean, do you use some sort of flow bench to tell if certain porting is helpfull? Do you have some way of telling what head chambers work while others don't? I know when I asked about porting our LT you mentioned it would be hard to do for most but you had some tools that made it easier. Most people don't have the option of trial and error so I assumed you have something to go by. (and exsperiance is a great tool to go by!) Just curious how you dirive at what to do where.

Sorry I didn't see it.
As for my porting, I looked at 3 LT80 cylinders from 3 builders and figured out the differences and what their effect was.
I read some 2 stroke books and sat down to start a pile of "trial and error" cylinders.
No flow machine. I do check the direction of the fuel charge tho.
Same with head designs.trial end error. I was impressed when I saw that most everyone in the mini business had a head design similiar to mine.
MacDizzy has a wealth of 2 stroke info to learn from as well.
I use a lathe, band saw, drill press, scales and a vast array of porting tools.
What drives me to do what I do? The big smiles I see when ppl send me pictures of their kids.
That's what I do it for!

Since we are talking Eton stuff, did you find any performance gains from milling the head on the Eton? My son has decided he wanted our Eton instead of the LT80. I will need to give it some more zing pretty soon.

The stock head has a poor chamber for what we want. I did mod a stock one, and that may be an option for a "start out" mod. But it needs major work.
I recommend buying the nice aftermarket head that is made for them.

Does it use the stock gasket or do you get a different kind when you buy the new one? I'm guessing it is higher compression. Can it be milled for more compression if necissary? I had the carb off about a year ago and don't remember if it was reeded or not. If it does have reeds are aftermarket ones better on the Eton?

when you mod the etons/etc. You buy a new reed cage that has reeds.
Yes a stock head gasket. The new aftermarket head will have as much compression as you will need. Once the cylinder is modded, I shave and rechamber the head to the cylinder (like most do).
