Hi i have a 83 suzuki alt50 and i cant get it to fire up at all, it has a new plug with plenty of blue spark new rings mix gas in the tank compression seems ok i cleaned up the exhaust port, totally dissambled the carb and cleaned, new float. when i try to pull start it, it seems as if gas is forced through the carb toward the air filter. any help would be awesome

 

Check the reeds.

 

I didnt think that motor had reeds, anyway, check the float level, it may be too high, or the air bleed in the intake side of carb may be plugged.

 

yeah i dont think the motor has reeds. Where is the bleed valve at on the top of carb?is it the one that i have a vacuum line coming off and going to nothing? And how can i check float level? thanks for the help.

Are you mixing oil with the gas?

 

Turning the carb upside down and measuring the float...it should be .96 to 1.00 higher than the mating surface,

vacumn line going to nothing? Does it have a pri position on the fuel valve on the gas tank? then its a vacumn valve and that vacumn line needs to go there. If nothing else...for now plug the line and turn the valve to pri. Its posible there is enough vacumn lost having this line disconnected, that it will prevent starting.
The air bleed is in the air filter side of the venturi, running parallel to the air flow. Its a brass insert in the aluminum body, and has a very tiny hole.
