Bigger Polaris 4x4 not working
#1
I posted this under the Polaris link but did not get any responses, and since you guys have been a wealth of knowlege on my sons 4 wheelers I was hoping someone might have an idea....
I have a Polaris Explorer 400 4x4 that will not engage the front tires any more. I think the AWD switch is working because when I have it in reverse and hit the over ride button the AWD light comes on but it while in low/high forward it will not engage the front tires the back tires will just sit there and spin and the AWD light NEVER comes on. I bought it used 3 years ago and never had any problems so I am hoping this is minor !!! I change the fluid in the hubs about twice a year with Polaris Hub fluid.
ANY help would be greatly appreciated....
Thanks Dan

Well, it could be a nuber of things. So, start checking minor things first. Is it turning the front drive shaft? Is it turning the front axles? If yes to those, is it putting any current to the front hubs? (check the wires going to each front hub) If yes, it about has to be in the front hubs. If no, you'll need to trace the wires and make sure they are fine. If they are, your going to have to ask someone other than myself that has more exsperance than me. I have heard that the speedo's can cause this. Try checking the basic's first and go from there. (also do a search of the forumns, there is lots of info on here)

Dan, Sounds like you might not be getting any elec to the magnets in the hub. Check the little wires that go to the hubs (for cracks or breakage.. ) Good luck
Your right, there seems to be alot of good info in this forum.......Thanks all

My bro-in-law has a "P". His front is driven by a chain. Could it be that simple??
I'll sit back and watch now.

Bedrock:
I have a 2000 SP 335 and my front wheels don't always engage when the rear wheels begin to spin. I end up switching it in and out of AWD with distance/an or rear tire rotation used as a variable, it seems to work. Definately, something is up with yours and my AWD too. We likely have the same problems. I can always get mine to work with a little coaxing, however it's frustrating. I believe it is electrical too, but not completely sure. Hopefully some good information will come of your post. Good suggestions already.

Thanks guys... Mine is chain driven and it is still intact. I will put it on the jack today and see if it is spinning the front chain and axels, but so far a couple of my friends think it is electrical to...
Please keep the thoughts coming what ever they are. I have spent so much money on my Swisher mower my wife will kill me if I have to take "Big Red' to the shop
