04 Predator 90 Problem
Last year I bought my son a 90 2004 predator. We only have written it a few times and this pass weekend we took to mountains. We found a mud puddle and drove through it a couple of times. On the third or fourth pass it just stalled. It starts fine, however when you apply gas it stalls and goes no where. I thought that there might be water or mud in air filter I checked thatk, also I thought I may have gotten bad gas. I drained the gas and put some higher octane. Still no joy. I have let the quad sit for several days thinking the water will work it's way out. Still no joy. Does anyone have any idea's. Thanks for your time.

04 Predator 90 Problem
Welcome to the forum.
Is this your first "puddle" or the last one of many???
As another suggestion (after the external things are done first), pull the plastic side cover off, pull the flywheel off and see how much mud / crud is hiding behind your stator system. When a stator blows, its usually a on or off condition. But sometimes, they will allow a mini to idle but won't rev up. re: mud / crud overload between its Electrical Contact points (aka: Sensor Pickups).
For more info on a Pred-90 stator and how much mud / crud could be "stored" behind it, surf the pictures within:

Hope this helps as well...

Have you come up with a solution for the crud behind the flywheel problem? My 90 usde to tolerate heavy mud. Over time it has gotten to the point of not tolerating heavy dust. I upgraded to the 05 90 flywheel cover with snorkel. The only advantage i gained is the ability to run a water hose down the snorkel to clean the stator and flywheel without removing. I have strted fabricating some guards but my first design provided zero benefit.

I don't think mud / crud can ever be eliminated from getting into the stator area on the 2 strokes. They are designed to have water below their running boards and "that's it". However, I do beleive that mud entry can be reduced. Reduced if it has improper gaps in its plastic engine case. For example: http://community.webshots.com/photo/...88568017BKSScY
To see how I "reduced" mud / crud entry into mini's stator area, surf all pictures within:

Knowning what I know today and realizing that it's impossible to keep mud / crud below its running boards on our trails, we should have bought a 4 strock. Something with a sealed tranny, sealed kick starter area, sealed electrical system and open air engine cooling. Just like my 2001 4 stroke AC-500i.
Hope these pictures help others who feel their engine case gap is "too much".

Did this plate and caulking help any?
My idea is more like a skid plate or fender to keep the wheels from throwing mud or water into stator area. We rareley if ever mud bog. Occasionaly there will be astrem crossing or puddle on the track and trails we ride.
Every time mine acts up I can run water down the snorkel and turn the starter for a few minutes and it will start. I have done this at least 20 times. Do you think the water will eventually have a negative effect? Currently I am running water down the snorkel whenever possible during our rides and when we get home.
