Default LT80: Help: Spark plug cap/wire

Need some help:

My son's '89 LT80 spark plug cap's inner brass retainer is tweaked (doesn't clip on the plug) and the wire isn't in the best shape, so I need to replace both. I've seen LT80's suggestion regarding the NGK cap replacement, so I've got that covered. What I need help with is the wire replacement:

Does it matter what plug wire I replace it with?

How do I remove the wire from the coil side?

I'm trying to prep the bike tonight, so any quick help would be appreciated. I'm not a wrench, so please give me as much detail as possible.

Thanks.

They say there are good wires out there, but I just use a standard plug wire from autozone/etc. and cut it to length and screw it in.
