So my kids lt 80 was running fine when suddenly it died. so i figure plug. get plug..... no fire. cleaned flywheel and stator no fire. bought coil off ebay. started right up. rode it for 5 minutes parked it. 1 hour later no fire. the bike is pull start only due to no battery in it at this time. does anyone know how to check power from the key switch or the run switch with no battery. or is the only thing i can do is check resistance. please help i really need to get this thing running but ... if somehting is shorting my coil i dont want to buy a new one at $150.00 and waste the $$$. so maybe i get lucky and its a switch any one had a similar problem

Have you tried cutting the two wire going to the switch and connecting them. That would eliminate a faulty switch. I cant see how you would blow another coil. Did you check the breaker button under the right rear fender? It's a small switch with a small button in the middle. Make sure its pressed in. Also, is the bike trying to start but wont? It might be possible the carb is junked up with pre-mix oil. Just a few things to trouble shoot. Hope it helps!

we had some similar issues with our 89 lt. I had to chase it from the stator up to the plug. It only turned out to be a brake in the spark plug wire from the ignition coil. You can unscrew the wire from the coil and test there, and keep going untill you find it. Is there even a dead battery connected to the wires. (grounded)
