make sure you get the gasket for the plate that holds the slider in carb. I couldn't get it off without damaging the gasket.

Will do. I went ahead and ordered the gasket this morning. That would be my luck too, tear the gasket while removing. Better to be safe than sorry.

For those interested in part numbers:

Gasket - 55X-14198-00-00 ( around $3.50 )

I live in High Point, NC just outside of Greensboro. I am in the process of buying my son a raptor 50. I found a 2005 that I am trying to grab off of a guy whos daughter road it. If I get it I will be doing some of these mods to it so I may have to give you a visit on some help if I need it HAHAHA!!!

Thanks everyone for the info on this forum. It will help me with modifing my sons quad if I can get it.

its definitely a decently built machine with a good heritage (moto/champ/badger). I am in the process of trying to find a reasonably priced moto/champ/badger 80/100 engine for my sons raptor 50. If I can find one I'm going to set aside some time in the fall to change out the 50, upgrade the tires and possibly add nerf bars. this should keep the ride interesting for him for a couple more years. I didn't notice any quads listed for you. do you do any riding out in high point.

If you dont mind me asking, whats a used 50 going for now adays? I have an '05 with all the mods done to it and im trying to get an idea of what its worth. Im thinking about selling it and moving my son up to something bigger but if Im going to take a bath on it I'll just keep it for playing around the house.

I did race Flat Track with a 250X that was highly modified. The motor was stroked to a 406cc and the only thing stock on the bike was the swing arm and rear shock. Everything else was either modified or came off of a 400ex or 250R. I have pics I can post on here if you want to see it. I just recently sold it about a month ago, and I put some of that money back to buy my son a 50cc atv. I know we have the law that is passed now, but he doesn't want a dirtbike. He wants a 4 wheeler and if thats what he wants then thats what I will get him. I don't want to spend the money on a bike and then he doesn't ride it. He is 5 yrs. old and I have a 18 month old boy to pass the 50 down to.

I have been researching and looking at 50s now for about 6 months. Most of them have been ranging from $1200 to $1500 that were stock. The one I found he is wanting $1400 for, but he is wanting money so I am trying to get him to take $1000 cash for it. The problem with the prices of 50s is that the competition for off brands has become so big you can buy a new one cheaper and for about the same price that you can buy a name brand like Yamaha, Kawasaki, Polaris. Some of the off brands have alot of safety features, some come with a 1 year warranty, and now you can find parts for them so the 50 market has changed.

The brands I was looking at are:
Keasa 50 - (which has alot of aftermarket parts out there for it)
eTon 50 - (same situation)
LEM Cayman - (Not sold in the US anymore so they are hard to find but they have aftermarket parts avaliable)
Raptor 50 - (Thanks to this forum it has brought my attention to buy)
Suzuki LT50 - (Just about bought one that was brand new for $1200 but I let it go because it was a 4 1/2 hr drive to pick it up)
Polaris 50 - (Found parts but heard they are cheap made)
Kymco 50 - (same thing heard they are cheap made)
Alpha Sport 50 - (A friend of mines sales them so I can get parts for them if I bought one)

To many to choose from so right now I am back and forth on brands.

hhpracing412 and atvingnc, if you guys ever want to get together for a ride with the kids this summer please let me know. I have a 5 year old son with the raptor 50 and I have a 400ex. I am in the process of moving from Wilmington, NC to Matthews, NC but I wont be into my house until the end of July. I need to be out of my house by the end of May so my quads are going to be in storage for most of the summer. I know by the time August hits, its going to be too hot to ride mid day at least. My son is dying to ride with kids his age since the only person he rides with is me. I would make the trip up the the highpoint area. There has got to be good places to ride. Let me know.

have you ever ridden at Busco Beach in goldsborough. www.buscobeach.com. I went riding there a couple of weeks back. 1300 acres of sand, trails and mud. it gets a little bit crowded on the weekends when the weather gets warm but during the week and the colder months its alot quieter. Have you been to Uwharrie National Forest riding ?

Sounds good man. Right now I am just planning on getting the little one a bike. Still saving up for me to get another one though. I have a question for you and atvingnc.

Where around here in NC is the best place to get the best price out the door for the Yamaha Raptor 50? I have been searching around, but alot of places will only give you the msrp over the phone or internet and I don't want to drive 2 to 3 hours out of my way just for someone not to come down low enough. Since the gas prices have went up so much don't have much money to waste on gas anymore.
