I have not ridden the beach or the other place yet. I ride at a local spot that isn't to popular so its great for me and the little guy to ride without worring someone is going to run into my son. I heard Busco beach is great but I am just so busy with the move I have no time right now. I saw a 50 Raptor today on the side of the road in Monroe, NC at a local atv shop on route 74. I am sure its priced high being a shop. I got my sons for 1200 on Ebay in Jersey and I had a friend who worked up there bring it down for me. Your best bet is to shop on ebay if you are looking for a deal. Keep in touch guys because I would love to see all the raptors with the mods tear it up. I know my son is dying to race around with other kids. I will look into Busco Beach when I get into my new house and get all the bs done. I have family in the wilmington area and we can make a trip out one weekend when its less crowded. Lets see if we can get a whole bunch of the kids together. I think it would be great for them and I know my son would never want to go home after a day of riding.....

what kind of top end are you getting on the Raptor 50 with the 80cc installed. I am ready to buy a replacement engine but I am up in the air between an 80cc and a 100cc. I know that the 80cc jug
could be replaced later with 100cc, but the 100cc is a 4-speed where as the 80cc is a 3-speed. Also
I have seen alot more resources for replacement and performance parts for the 80cc (since the 100cc
was only offered for a few years).

I just bought a new Procom CDI for the 50 but before I received it I bought a 1995 Badger 80 engine on EBay. If anyone would like to buy it from me let me know(it is new never out of the box it was a replacement for the first one i had). I can take paypal. Then I bought a wiring harness. Not installed yet. I need to get a cdi for the 80 first. So I installed the 80 engine and I’m running the stock cdi from the 50. It now has so much more power than the 50, my daughter climbs all the hills in the desert by our house no problem in first gear. Where as before with the 50 she would stop a 1/4 of the way up. 1st gear is a little slower top speed than the 50, 2nd is a little faster, and 3rd blows it away. I am very impressed with it now. I don’t even know why they sell the 50 because if your child needs to go slow, leave it in 1st gear let them learn to ride. When they get advanced enough you can put it in second gear. After that teach them how to shift it and then they are ready for 3rd gear.

As for the question from Atvingnc I think the 4th gear and 100cc would make the little raptor a little hard to control top speed. My daughter is going plenty fast with the stock 50 cdi on the 80 engine in third gear and she even gets a little squirrelly. It will be even faster when I get an 80 CDI because it will have a few thousand more rpms.

If you think you might need more power they make a 93cc big bore kit for it. But in my opinion if you need more power than the 80cc gives you you probably need to be looking into Blaster or equivalent.

Incase you where wondering my daughter is 6 1/2 years old and been riding the 50 since she was 4 1/2.

All modifications in this thread where done to the 50 before i changed engines.

Thanks for the input. it sounds like an 80cc it will be. where did you find the 80cc on ebay ? I have contacted some salvage places and they have them but they are sort of pricey ??? I am also going to add spacers and wider tires to the machine when I change the engine. What did you do to accomodate the gear shifter for the 80cc. did you have to cut the stock plastic ?

The item number for the one I purchased was 4628574323 I paid $184.50+$55.95 for shipping (if you type that in you can check it out). They are on there every once and a while so check often. use these in the search field "yfm80","yfm 80", "Yamaha Raptor 80", "Yamaha Raptor80 ", "Badger 80", and "Badger80".

Installation was very easy. remove battery, disconnect any electrical near the battery, remove all plastics, remove gas tank (remember to turn the fuel off), remove exhaust, disconnect carburetor, then there are two bolts that go threw the engine one on top and one on bottom both to the rear of the engine remove them then slide engine forward and then out the side to remove from the frame. Easy as that. To reassemble follow those steps in reverse.

For the shifter to work with the 50 foot boards I cut out the plastic about 1” wide in an arch shape. I put the plastic up against the shifter and shifted it up and down to give me a rubbed pattern mark on the back side to give me a guide to cut around. After I cut it I installed the foot boards and had to pull the shifter away from the engine so that it would come threw the plastic a little further. Works great. You will have to take the shifter off and put it back on so that there will be enough room to get a foot under it.

I hope this info helps you. Your kid will love it.

I just bought a 1994 badger 80 motor from a salvage place (It was difficult to keep from getting the 100cc since they also had one in stock).
I tried to bid for one on ebay last night but it got a little pricey. The kid is getting exited about having gears. I should have bought the
raptor 80 to begin with. Next time I won't listen to the damn salesman.

there is a website called MrCycleParts.com. you can input a part that you are looking for and it will send a request to salvage yards throughout its network to find it. you then get a quote back from MrCycleParts and you can get in contact with the salvage yard. it works pretty well. I got my 80cc through ss2wheels ($275 + $35 ship). There where 3 or 4 other salvage places that had 80ccs, as well as 1991 100ccs for approx. the same price. These engines don't include starter or carb. but are generally guaranteed to be in running condition by the salvage place. The ebay one I bid on went for over $300. I have also been looking for full wheel spacers (not the lug type) there is a website http://www.weirdharoldscoolparts.com that sells them for about the cheapest I've seen for this style and quality.
