Recieved XL 50 now have a few questions....

Hey guys,
Yesterday I received my XL 50 from Raceway. It looks like a pretty well constructed product. Upon putting it together I noticed that under the left front fender there were a couple of loose unconnected wires. One is a black (looks to be a ground?) wire that has a connector which looks like the ones that go on the battery. The next is a green wire which is hanging with no conector. Anybody have any ideas to what these are for?
When trying to get it to go into neutral, I can't get it to stay. If I keep the gear linkage pressed it will stay however once let up it goes back into gear.
Last question....Trying to get it started, it's very cold here around 10-15 degrees. It seems like it wants to start however won't. Any suggestions would be great. I figured I would give John at Raceway a call on Monday if I can't get it working over the weekend.

Update:
Finally got it to stay in neutral. And did manage to get it started. However after about a minute running it died and I can't get it started again. By now I have drained the battery so I am in the process of charging it again.
Any ideas, I remember somebody speaking of the air/fuel mixture screw needing adjusting?

As for the wires… Do Not connect them! They are part of the alarm / remote starting system that are left un-connected for some reason. I just tucked them up so their not hanging down.
Try to adjust the screw on the carburetor. It is located on the left side of the carburetor. It should be the only screw you can adjust.

You probably fouled the plug too... so change it or clean it. Sounds like the carb needs adjustment. You didn't mention your altitude... If you are up high, you will need to lean it out a great deal.

Thanks for the info guys. I have been busy much of the day so tomorrow I will try out adjusting the carb. I live in Iowa so I'm on a level plain as far as altitude. I'll post my results once I work on it tomorrow.

Ok, cleaned the spark plug and got it started again. It ran for about 5 minutes then sputtered and died again. I had adjusted the screw on the left side which I think is the air/fuel mixture screw (all though it looks like an idle screw to me) prior to starting it the first time. However now I can't get it started again.
It probably doesn't help that it's only 9 degrees today.

Does it have a manual choke? Dont turn the starter over for more than 10-15 sec at a time. You need to let it cool a min or 2 before trying again or you will burn the starter up. Is there a fuel shut off valve? Check the plug again. Sounds like you are not getting fuel.

It does have a manual choke as well as a fuel shut off valve. I have it to the desginated on position but have tried the off side to see if they had something backwards. Same thing. I have been giving it a break in between tries for fear, as you mentioned, that the starter will burn up. Each time I get it started and it dies I pull the plug and clean it.
I have my son's bday party to host so I won't be able to work on it until later this afternoon.
When I go back out and happen to get it started, what do you guys recommend I do to keep it running. I can't even worry about the idle problem until I can keep it running [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/img]

Update:
Took it over to my neighbor who is a bike mechanic and found out that it had a leak in the manifold that goes from the carb to the engine. Once we fixed that it started up and ran just fine. It runs really well for such a small little quad.
Only other thing I noticted was one of the solders that is connected to the rear LED came disconnected. Nothing big.
