Default Help needed in WI

This is a call for help from the mechanically challenged / inexperienced. I have 4 mini atvs for my kids, two old Yamaha 4-Zingers, two newer Dinli Helix units, and two Brutes (a 650 & a 750) for my wife and I. I want to start to give the 90’s a little more pep but I have never worked “motors” and I’m afraid of screwing something up. I have already purchased pipes for the units, and a clutch kit for one of them (which is already installed). I want to remove the oil injection and go with a new intake, carb, and head at this time as well. I might even want to step up to a big bore kit. I have never had any luck taking things into a dealer to get performance work done on my stuff in past (not to mention I have gone broke paying for them “learn” on my dime), so what I looking for is for some help someone who would be willing to teach me the ropes on these minis. Down the road I would also like to put a jet kit and a pipe on the 750. I live in Menomonee Falls WI, and would really appreciate it if someone would be willing lend me a hand and show / help me how to work on these things. Along with a huge thank you from my kids and myself, I’ll throw in some steaks on the grill and a few cold ones! I would be willing to take the units to your place or use my garage (I have tools just not the knowledge or experience to know what to do with them), whatever work best for the person who is will to help me out. Please let me if you are willing to share you knowledge and experience. Thanks!

The more I think about your "plea for help", the more I reflect back and think of myself. Back 3-3.5 years ago, I didn't know the difference between the left and right brake levers. No kidding!!!! Back then, I was greaner then a new spring sprout. With lots of help from the folks on this forum (and other forums), I learned a little bit since then. Not as much as the pros on this forum but enough to keep me out of trouble. Perhaps you are in the same sitatuion? Meaning, you know what you want but don't know how to get there? Or you don't have the confidence in yourself to get there? Or, perhaps learning more technical things in life isn't your passion?

Here's a few questions:
- Do you change the engine oil on your existing full size ATVs?
- Do you change the engine oil in your vehicles?
- Do you check air pressure in your car tires?
- Do you check / add fluids to your cars?

If so, then you do have the "base foundation" to perform many mini-quad upgrades yourself. As Billy Holt once told me, "the greatest fear of doing an upgrade is over coming one's own fear - the fear of doing it". With this in mind and Billy's many hours of coaching me, I was able to apply many of the mods you want to apply on your mini as well.

As a suggestion, target one upgrade at a time. Work on it, get your confidence / comfort feeling a little higher, give yourself some time, then work on the next mod. If you do all mods at once, it is a huge chunk of pie to bite into (sort of speaking). Take little bites at a time and use its knowledge to perform the next upgrade. One step at a time....

For your first step, may I suggest removing the OI system yourself. See the email instructions I sent you. This one is very easy to do. Get that out of the way, then focus on something else. If you get stuck, come back to this forum and ask others to help you over this specific upgrade. Folks on this forum are more then willing to help others who are stuck.

If you go one step at a time, your desired mods can be done yourself. It's just a matter of getting past one's own personal fear. Fear of not doing it right or perhaps taking much longer then the pros. Go slow, take your time and enjoy. And, always try to "have fun doing it"!!!

Hope this helps as well....
