Plug gap for 50cc Giovanni
#1
HI, Threads here say change oil, check valve adjustment and new plug. I have done the oil and working on valves. Got the new plugs. Manual for internet says gap between 24-27 thous. But that manual isn't for the same quad. Plug that came is about 25 thous. Does that sound right? If they can't set the valves right wondering if plug gap is right. THANKS J.R.

Hey JR,
Just got the new GIO today. Put in a new NGK CR6HSA plug, quality 10W40 and didn't bother with checking the valves......runs like a hot damn. My daughter hasn't stopped. I just wish it had a little more zip off the line. Pretty fast once she winds up though. I don't believe much else can be done about the lack of power when starting from a stand still....it's the centrifigual clutch.
How do you find your GIO's when starting from a stand still?
Later.
Brian
PS.. I set the gap at .027

HEY BRIAN, Just did my valves on the one quad. They were really tight, you could hear a real loud knocking when going faster. WOW what a job. Valves seem to be more noiser now ( louder tickedy, ticky sound) I hope i set them right, really hard to get in there. Hopefully second bike is a little faster if i decide to do it. My son doesn't need any more speed yet. Seems like its got lots more power than before ( top speed and off the line). Only did one run down the alley cause it was 11 pm when i got done. Can't wait for daylight to try again. Yes i find them a little slow off the line ( Hard to tell thou with the boy I have the throttle limit set pretty low. If he stops on a hill, i got to go push him cause he hasn't got enogh throttle to get going . Once he gets going , he ends going faster than i would like. Dry hard flat gravel not bad off the line, grass very slow and wet dirt also very slow. Thats me riding at 200 lbs. Thanks for the gap size, will retry gapping mine again. I read in some other threads here to take the gel pack out of the carb. Do you have any idea where and what a gel pack is ???? Glad your daughter is having fun. You know she can run all night with the headlights, LOL. Wish i lived back in B.C. What a hassle here to get insurance and license plates for Gio's. Finally got them thou. You need those items to ride on crown land here. later J.R. PS, Sorry my sentences are all bunched together, tried leaving space. then hit preview and everything is all bunched together.. I DUNNO.....

JR,
The gel pack (if your GIO had one) would be long gone by now. They are placed in the carb for shipping purposes to prevent damage. They are designed to dissolve once gasoline is cycled through the carb. I pulled my carb apart prior to start up and my GIO did not have a gel pack.
I think I am going to wait a week or so before I check the valves.
