if you turn the petcock to the prime position, and loosen the bowl drain bolt, does fuel drain out? If it won't flow out of the drain, your float valve (needle) might be stuck. How long has it been since your fiddy has ran?

How old is your fiddy?

i have had the carb apart and the float doesnt seem to be stuck, which bit is the petcock? i have also checked the jets and none of them are blocked, when i first disconnected the carb fuel ran out of the bottom.?

the petcock is the fuel valve attached to the fuel tank on the left side. if you had the carb apart, did you get the float installed correctly. This would be very important as far as fuel flow control. What made you tear into the carb at that point?

Did you look at the spark bolt, is it possibly fouled? It should be a dry cinnamon colored BP4HS NGK. do you have spark at the plug?

well when it wouldnt start after numerous attempts and i had checked the spark plug(it is the correct plug and has a brilliant spark), the carb seemed like a good place to start. i thought that there might be a blockage somewhere in the carb. it turned out that the jet (i think this is the main jet) from what i can make out takes the fuel through to the top part of the carb (i might be wrong but i am trying to explain as best i can) did have something in it because i blew through it and a bit of dirt or something flew out. but when i put the carb back together it seemed to make no difference so i am not sure what to do next.
