Brake Light
#1
Both my kids have 2001 Polaris scramblers, one 50cc and one 90cc. There brake light is now on all the time(except when the key is off)The 50cc was running without a running light but his brake light worked, now his brake light is on staedy as is the 90cc. I looked at the bulbs and both filaments seem okay? I checked the brake cable to make sure it is'nt to tight to cause this. Any ideas? Is there a brake light switch that could be gone? Thanks Jim.... Thanks kartattack, that was the problem on both quads. Tha 90cc was bent, the 50cc I just took out and sprayed it with WD40. The only thing now is sometimes I have to wiggle the wires to get them started! Did I put something in wrong? Thanks Jim.......

I'm not sure how to explain this, but I think you put in the plastic thing that separates the wires/contacts incorrectly (I did this). The easy way is for the contact prongs (not the part that touches the pin that activates the light, but the two little legs that stick out onto the plastic separator) to go in the lower groove and that results in the pin not being able to touch the contactors. There is a notch with a saddle (hump) in it just above the lower groove and this is where the base prongs of the contacts have to ride for the pin to reliably make contact. I had to really put some pressure on the wires to get both contactor's prongs to reside in that second groove (with the hump). If it went back together really easy and the contactors don't protrude past the plastic separator, then that is your problem.
I am sure that is as clear as mud, but I think if you take it apart again, you'll see what I mean.

Thanks again pal, I will check this out tommorow. The part is about 20.00 each from the dealer. Hopefully I can figure it out. Kids were bummed that they couldn't start there quads tonight, but of course they dont understand the meaning of having there brake light working properly! And tell them to be patient while Dad tries to figure it out is like waiting for the moon to fall HA HA!! I will let you know what happens. Thanks again and I am sure I can get it.

Hey kartattack, well I got the quads to start okay, but there running lights don't work. The 50cc brake light blinks off and on when it gets bumpy. I pulled the bulbs out and both filaments look good. Does this have to do with the switch not having the running lights working? Let me know what ya think. Thanks Jim....
