Default bigger tires

Hi, my Baja 250 came with 22X11.00X10 tires on the rear and 22X8X10 on the front. What are the implications, assuming I find rims of going to a 25 size tire? The reason i ask, is that I have access to a set of those tires for free. I would like to use them as it would give me an extra 1.5 inches of ground clearance.

Opinions, please.

Thanks.

What size rims do you have already? If they are 10in rims then the tires shoot fit on the rims. I don't have a picture of the quad but will the tires fit under the plastic and turn without rubbing? Just don't go smaller in tire width which I doubt would happen.

Default bigger tires

Looking at my post from this morning, I realized I left out a few details. The tires I have access to are 12 inch rim, not 10 inch like what I have already. The back tires are also 1 inch narrower than the stock tires. I didn't check the width of the new front tires. The new ones come from a 2005 Honda 500 Foreman.

So, to clarify, the stock tires are 22 inch high, 11 inch wide and 10 inch rim. The new ones, if I go that route, would need 12 inch rims and would be 25 inches tall, 10 inches wide and 12 inch rim.

I know that would change the speedometer reading, but I am more interested in what would happen to my speed/power potential. Would it be faster, with less bottom end power, or more power, less speed?

I guess I should just go straight to bed whan I get off nightshift and not start playing on the internet!

Larger tire diameter = higher top speed at the expense of low end pull.
Your clutch pack will run hotter and you will have to keep the motor 'up on the pipe' a lot more.
Try to keep the "250" in mind through all this deliberation - it is not a 1000cc Grand Prix motor.
Bottom line - Go for it. It will drive you nuts wondering about it until you do.

Yeah, I know it`s not a big engine, but I mostly stick to old logging roads and fairly clear trails. There are times however, that I have to cross a fallen tree, large nump, or through previous ruts where I get hung up on the frame. So far these could have been crossed easily with only a little more ground clearance. That is what I am after. I had my kids in the buggy behind me when I tried to cross this one log and got hung up between the two axles. I winched myself over, but if I had another adult with me, we could have just pushed it over. My kids are small enough that I couldn`t trust one of them to give it a little throttle while I lifted the back end.

I think I will shop around for replacement rims and take it from there.
