Need help Jetting Redcat 150
#1
I have a Redcat FX-150 MKII. I removed the stock airbox and installed a UNI 2 stage, and I gutted the stock muffler (I know, it was wrong, but it's not loud just a little throaty). I know at this point I should need to rejet. I have run the quad for about an hour, and the only difference I noticed in the plug is one small white area on the electrode about 1/16" long. If the quad was really running lean shoudln't it be white on the base of the plug, not the electrode tip? And where can I get a jet kit for this quad? I'm sure at this point that I will have to jet bacause this quad has an automatic choke, and it stays on a lot now. I'm thinking that it notices that there is a lean condition so it richens it up by choking. Basically my question is what jets will work on the carb for this quad?

I gutted my muffler also and it was not loud just throaty... but I haven't installed a uni filter yet...I did take a hand drill and punched out the main jet to 0.044 I think I'm at a 110 jet
I could have went more but I'll do that when I change the air box out.
on the inside of your muffler did you leave the solid ring up in the muffler...when I removed the baffle it came apart so I left it.
I copied this from my documents...Someone here sent this to me...Hope it helps you like it did me.
There have been several post recently about what drill equals what jet so I wanted to post this and hopefully help clear it up. I have measured the following jets personally with precision pin gages that step up in .001" increments:
108 = .0425" (.0420" fit loose but .0430" wouldn't fit)
117.5 = .0465" (.0460" fit loose but .0470" wouldn't fit)
125 = .0490" (good slip fit)
127.5 = .0500" (good slip fit)
130 = .0510" (good slip fit)
132.5 = .0520" (good slip fit)
135 = .0530" (good slip fit)
137.5 = .0540" (good slip fit)
140 = .0550" (good slip fit)
Please keep in mind that this reference is for Keihin CV carbs ONLY. Other jets may not follow this pattern.
So, just for the record a #54 drill would equal a 140 jet, a #55 would be close to a 132.5 jet, and a #56 would be a tad small for a 117.5 jet. To get any other of the common jets sizes you would have to special order decimal drills. Hope this helps...

Thanks for the help Archeric, that helps alot. I can just drill my jet out. On my muffler, I took off the nut on the endcap and started pulling it all out. Everything came out in one piece. Now I screwed up the endcap using my seal puller to get everything out, so I went to home depot. I bought a Briggs and Stratton muffler that was long and the same diameter as the opening in the end of the muffler on the quad. I sawed off the end about 3/4" and it put the part I sawed off in the end of the muffler on the quad. It fit perfectly. I welded it into place and repainted with high heat paint, it turned out beautiful. Now it looks like the insides are there but they're not, and it didn't sacrifice the sound. I will post a pic of it tomorrow in my profile so you can see what it looks like. Hope this helps, and thanks for your help.

I decided not to drill my main jet, after reading that it isn't that great of an idea. Can somebody tell me where I can find jets for the carb on this quad? I still don't know what kind of carb it is.

godIlove2ride,
I looked it up on the RedCat website and it is the same Carb as my Dingo...so it's a Keihin style.

That carb is 24mm and from some information on oregonvintage it has a 1.07mm main jet and a .35mm pilot jet. He recommends going to a 120 main and a 38pilot jet. There is alot of good information there and alot of pictures. Hope this helps.

Guys,
Thanks for all of the help you gave. I revceived my jet kit yesterday, and rejetted. I was kind of shocked; the main jet was stamped 103 which seemed a little on the small side to me, anyway after trial and error, I am up to a 125 now. And the stock pilot was not even stamped, but I replaced it with a 40. So far so good, been running and sounding great.
