Default New Unison Desert Cat 90 Prep Tips

I am picking up my son's Unison DC 90 today. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for prep that I should know about? Things to look out for? I ordered it with the reverse, I hope that it comes installed. What kind of 2 stroke oil do you suggest. I know it is injected so no need to mix with fuel.
I hope I have better luck with this one than I did with the XL-70 that I am throwing in the dumpster!!!!!! (Less that 5 hours on it)

HTE,

You will love the Unison. The xl70 will look like a walmart toy compaired to the Unison. There really is not much to do to the Unison except the regular setup like checking all the nuts and bolts. There is no need for lock tite with these just a good checking over. You will have to mount the tires, handle bars and bumper. Not much else. Very simple. I use synthetic 2 stroke oil. These are pretty much tuned by the factory and run right out of the box. Not sure if the reverse is already installed. I had to install it myself. If you have any more questions dont hesitate. Now lets get this thing together so your son can see what a real quad looks, runs and rides like!

I hear you. The freight company wanted to wait until Monday to deliver it. I told them I wanted to take my son riding this weekend and would come pick it up. He has been tainted with that piece of **** that I bought and has lost some of his enthusiasm twoards Motorcycles, ATV's etc... I hope that this new ride will get him back to his original state! I will probably wait until tomorrow to assemble. I take it there is no oil included for the injection, and I won't have time to get any today. someone else suggested Amsoil. I am sure that any decent namebrand will work. What about the Gearbox? 10/40, 10/30, 5/30???? Since there isn't any breakin there really, should I just go with synthetic also? What about the clutches? Are they a wet system??
Thanks for the help

Oh yeah, does this one come with some kind of manual, and is there a factory service manual available? CD would be nice.

There is no oil included so yes you will have to get some. There is usally a little bit in the tank so you can start it once put together. Amsoil is very good for just about anything. You dont have to go with synthetic but for the money it is much better. It burns cleaner, smokes less and is much better for the bearings and piston. You can use any name brand 2 stroke injection oil. When he gets on this quad he will have a smile from ear to ear. I also could not wait for the trucking company to deliver ours so I drove an hour each way to get it.

As for the clutches this is a REAL cvt belt driven tranny. No wet clutches. Actual drive and driven pully system. Nothing to worry about when it comes to clutches. Just a belt. The tranny gearbox already has fluid. Some say 10w30 some say gl5 gear oil. It comes with a real manual and it has all the fluid requirments in it.

Just go through the nuts and bolts and tighten them up. Toss in some Golden Spectro 2-stroke in the oil tank and let
her rip. Then get rid of the big tires in the back. I put 18" snow hogs in the back and 20" Razr's on the front of my boy's DC 90 and it rides so much better for him.

Well there manual sucks!!!!!! It shows a 150cc ATV, a 4 stroke ATV with dipstick, handlebar mounted rear brake, and who knows what else is wrong. I mean come on!!!!! This is bullsh!t. Where do you check the crankcase fluid level. It doesn't mention any fluid requirements in the manual. AT least that match the ATV I bought. Enginge oil:SAE10W-40. It tells you that the valves need to be adjusted every 30 operating days. The front cover says 50cc, 90cc, and Mini 50cc.
Raceways site also said that it comes with a free water proof/dust proof cover, 1 pair of shock covers and flags. I received none of that. What is the cover it is talking about?
I am pissed! I am sick and tired of these half a$$ manuals, and not receiving what I was promised.

The Dust cover is a blue dust cover for the ATV that covers the whole ATV. I has the Unison logo on it.
Comes in handy when it is sitting in the garage keeps dust and grass from the John Deere off the DC 90. I bought mine at kidatvs.com and got the dust cover...never got any shock covers either...not that I would use them.

Not sure why John has not taken it off the site but Unison does not offer the shock covers and flag anymore but you should have gotten a cover.
