Default Jumper Cables for Chinese ATVs???

Hey all,

I was just thinking, I have an extra length of 12 guage house electrical wiring laying around...If I were to put alligator clips on each end, would these work for jumper cables on the Chinese ATVs? If so, they would be quite easy to pack up in a bag for the trails.

What do you think?

Be easier just to trash the battery that came with it and buy a new, decent battery.

Welcome to the forum bilinvic! I made a set of jumper cables just like you described. I have not needed them but figured with quads with no back up kick starter. It would be nice to have a set around. I store them under the seat.

I made a set using some low voltage yard lighting wire and some medium alligator clips from Pep Boys.

have you used them. just curious as to how they worked i figured they would not be able to handle the amps from the battery? If so do they heat up ?

I actually used a old extension cord to make mine. I got to try it last nite when i fired up one of my mini utility quads. It worked fine and didnt seem to heat up either.

It's designed for that yard lighting, so it handles 12 volt, and can handle up to 9 amps or so. They don't heat up and work pretty good.

We aren't really pushing alot of amps from a 12 volt DC magneto run system. That's why when you jump a motorcycle from a car, you can't have the car running, becuase those alternators do push out alot of amps and would fry our tiny batteries.

Thanks for the info...I will make up a pair. I'd rather spend my hard earned money on other things!!!

Thanks for tip BigDaddyTX...I'll remember to leave my vehicle off if I need to jump from it's battery.

This is a good idea. I'm also going to make a set.
