Default 2007 E-Ton 90 vs 2004 Honda TRX 90?

We're looking into buying our 7 year old a quad to use on the beach and small dunes. We already have a 2007 Honda TRX 90 for our 9 year old and love it, but are looking to either get a new 2007 E-Ton 90 or used 2004 Honda TRX 90 for a few hundred bucks less. Other than the pull start on the 2004 TRX-90, which is a drawback from an electric start, does anyone have any recommendations? I've read some topics on here about other brands, but nothing compared to a Honda. Any help is appreciated!

Welcome to the forums.
Please realize that NEW 4 stroke machines (other than Honda) are guttless wonders.
The eton/kasea/polaris/dinli's with 2 stroke motors is what I'd be looking for.

I don't agree, LT80. Our '07 Eton Viper 90R is a four-stroke, and it accelerates and moves along quite nicely (with a 35-40 mph top speed). Plus it has great features, like reverse(!), full lights, a bacup beeper, an adjustable CDI (which is good because kids will very quickly discover for themselves how to adjust the throttle limiters on the handlebars), and a number of safety features, like you can't start it in gear, you have to put the brake on to shift into forward or reverse from neutral.

We bought the Eton after much comparison shopping, because it seemed to have so much more in terms of features than the other bikes, and it is made in Taiiwan, meaning it is more reliable than mainland Chinese bikes. IMHO, I think Eton really scored with this bike, especially since it has reverse.

I'll have to use the "mainland" term. LOL
The cheapies have a place, just not in my garage..
They do allow some kids the chance to ride that never could. altho,,,,,,,
TAIWAN ALL THE WAY!!!

What irritates me is!
Those 6-packs work pretty good.

I own a 2005 eton viper 90r and a 2006 honda trx90 and the honda is, in my opinion, a better machine. If you are planning on ridding in sand you will want the honda motor and 4-speed tranny.

I looked on the Honda.ca website, and the '07 TRX90 EX lists for some $3600, whereas I can (now) get a new '07 Viper 90R on Autotrader.ca for around $2K. Since both are 4-strokes and probably both reliable, I was swayed by the price and the Eton's many extra features (lights, disc brakes, reverse, etc.).

Or you could buy a used 2-stroke, pipe it and smoke both for even less money.

Thanks everyone for their comments! We ended up getting a 2005 Honda TRX 90.. brand new. Hard to believe, but it was brand new from the dealer for only around $1800 out the door, and they still had more!
