Raptor 50 slide
#1
I have seen a ton of mentions about cutting the slider inside the card and grinding the limiter in the throttle but does anyone have a detailed "how to"? Is this something that is rather easy for the a person that is machically inclined? I want to improve my son's Raptor 50 without going over board. I understand after I do these two mods I will need to replace the CDI but don't want to send the money on the CDI if I can't get the other two completed myself or find somewhere to have ti done.
Thanks for the help.

bubba1170,
I am mechanically inclined and still chose to purchase the Raptor 80 slider ($20) and Raptor 80 throttle lever ($4.00) instead of modifying the old ones. you will also probably need the gasket for the carburator slider cover ($3.00). changing out the slider will be the most difficult part of the operation but if you take your time, keep pieces together, note how things where assembled and work in a clean area you shouldn't have much of a problem. I have the shop manual for the Raptor 50 that I can email you. while you have the patient on the operating table I would recommend changing the main jet to #80 ($6.00) and you will probably need the gasket for the bowl ($6.00) to do this. without at least the slider change and the throttle lever change the high-rev CDI won't buy you much. another mod I would highly recommend are wheel spacers (front and back) especially if your going to up the performance with the above mentioned mods. there are some of the lug type on ebay under "Raptor 80" that I have used. new tires and rims, exhaust and clutch mods can also be done but are much costier and require some further mechanical skill.

I appreciate the reply. If you could send me the manual at brian.brady@ingrammicro.com I would appreciate it. I like the idea of replacing as later on this quad will be passed down to my daughter and I could always revert back if needed. is the local yamaha dealer my best bet to get these parts or is there a better aftermarket web site to use?

My dealers parts have been pricey and their not very good with the delivery times. so I've used www.worldofcycles.com the prices and delivery time is good. however there are many of these types of web sites out there so just a little bit of searching will probably turn up one close to you.

Interesting. So I went to the website and am looking over the intake diagram and am not sure what parts I need to order. I don't actually see a part called slide. Is it called the needle set?

Throttle, slide, jet, gaskets. Pretty much everything you listed with the exception of the wheels, tires, and exhaust.
I appreciate your help. I would be lost without it.
thanks,
Brian
