I have to disagree... After having nothing but Japanese products, I think you are going to be very disappointed with the ATVs that were recommended. I have had a couple of Chinese brands for the kids now...and they have become quite decent, but they are still a class of their own.

We just moved my son (also 9) up to his first real ATV. We got him an Arctic Cat 90 (the Taiwan version). I am a HUGE fanatic of fit and finish and I was blown away at the quality of this quad. This is the Dinli/Bombardier.Jag (all the same thing). Great ATV...two stroke, e-start 90cc. This thing has over twice the power of the JM110 we had before without a doubt. My wife hopped on it and it fit her quite well and oulled her up some hills that were tough to walk up.

You mentioned sand...sand needs power. 110cc of Honda clone just wont do it.
The Arctic cat 90... is a 2 stroke? Also, you say Taiwan version... Is there more than one version of the arctic cat? Did you buy yours new or used? And is it a Utility style or sport style?

Yes...it was new, but a leftover. There are still lots of them around too.

Some of the guys here know the details, but a company in Taiwan was making the Arctic Cat, Polaris and Bombardier ATV in the 2002-2004 time frame. They were excellent machines. They all ran the same 90cc CVT 2S engine (the forced air cooled version).

I know the AC and Bom are exactly the same. The Polaris was slightly different (plastic I think) but was 95% the same. All good quads. There were some off brands that are also the same too...a few guys here have them. Jag is one, Desert something??

Uncorked, these will drag an adult through the sand without issue.

Here is what mine looks like...same color too:

I am not trying to knock the chinese quads as I have owned a couple and still have a Roketa for my daughter. They are what they are. These Taiwan built ATVs, though, are exactly on par with the Japanese brands. You have to have a good product to sell it whole for AC and Bom as they have a name capital to protect.

Kymco hands down...I just purchased a Mongoose 90 for my 7 year old and he loves it. Kymco manufactures ATV's for Kawasaki and Polaris if you did not know. The price is cheaper than the name brands and your getting the same ATV...

You can also check out the Unison Desert cat 90. You cant find a better quad for the money period! It is not chinese. Its made in Taiwan and its the same as the Polaris pred 90 2 stroke. This is a very tough quad and plenty of power for the sand. The JetMoto is still a decent quad but it wont have the power of a 90cc 2 stroke.</end quote></div>

The Desert Cat 90 is a great bike! But Unison is Taiwanese with a manufacuring plant in China too. I'd stick with Polaris. At least we know they're good, where they're made, and they're not going to go out of business anytime soon!
