I just bought my son a 2004 LT-A50. I'm needing to get him some safety equip. What does everyone recommend? I obviously know I need to get him a helmet but should I get a chest protector, gloves, etc. also?

my 6 year old son been riding a year now.
i make him wear a helmet and long pants and sneakers long or short sleav shirt. he has hundereds of hours on his bike and has had a few spills ,but he got rite back on and kept riding.
you never can be to safe ,it would be good to suit up from head to toe in motocross gear. but it is to hot down here in south florida to wear all that stuff. he melts as it is.
i got him a cammel back. ta water sack you wear on your back with a hose for ice water.
it is not practical for us to go all out with the motocross gear. but if we lived up north i would put some more stuff on him

My son just turned 5 years old he just started riding so we got him every thing. It took awhile to find a chest protector his size but Oneal makes a Pee-Wee size. Then he always wears the pants /shirt /gloves/googles/helmet.

Do you know how stupid this statement sounds.
How does the warm weather make you?

My minimum list, good helmet, goggles, gloves, long sleeve shirt, jeans, and BOOTS. You don't have to buy him mx boots, but something over the ankle that is sturdy is necessary. Steel shank is even better for standing on the pegs for any period of time.

You might add a neck roll to your lists. Helmets are heavy for younsters. Neck injuries are common. I agree on the over the ankle leather boot. MX styles are just too clumsy. Also, that leather rim can cause young bones to snap. Been there, done that. Gloves and good eyewear are essential too. I would add a chatter box radio system too dad... It will allow you to talk to him while riding. You are right there with him arent't you?
the best safety item I can think of is a good dose of common sense and a healthy respect for the machine. Teach him well, make sure he follows your instructions or make him park it. I agree with the chest protectors too. If you want to make improvements on teh machine, I'd highly recommend you widen the track by using spacers. They are available from several sources. Wider equals less ability to flip over.
