I am looking to buy my first atv. I am big and want a like machine. Kazuma has a good price on these and I hear that they use japanese carbs. Does anyone own one or know much about them? Would it be better to buy name brand maybe a few years old?

found this on atvoutdoors.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just wanted to stop in and shed some light on the Kazuma Jaguar 500 ATV that I have purchased. In case there was someone out there considering purchasing this machine.
First off, I purchased this machine and was told it would arrive with in a couple weeks. I received the machine after 2 months when I demanded my money back. After opening the crate there was oil everywhere. Anything that could leak oil, did leak oil. Front Diff. , Rear Diff., Motor, Coolant. After I repaired all the oil leaks the gas tank started leaking all around the seams. I contacted the dealer and he said he would send me out a new tank at no charge. A couple weeks later I called him cause I didn't receive the tank. He said it was on back order. Couple weeks again went by and I called him again .He said still on back order. So I called Kazuma Pacific to complain about this. They said not to call them cause they don't deal directly with customers. It's now been 3 months and I still haven't received the tank. After I had a few choice words with Kazuma Pacific. I had to take it to a weld shop and they welded all the seams and then poured Kream sealer in the tank to make sure it didn't leak. Total cost $110.00. The rear brakes was installed wrong from factor and ate up the brakes and warpt the rotor. I called and ordered these parts a month ago. And guess what. Back ordered. Not here to cry a river. Just wanted to help some one out that might be thinking about purchasing one of these machines. But if you don't mind repairing a quad that you just paid $3600.00 for and don't mind not being able to get parts. Then go ahead save some money over a brad name machine and purchase one. I truly feel sorry for a person that has purchased this machine and does not have mechanical abilities

Why would anyone spend $3600 on a chinese quad when you can buy a really nice, slightly used name brand for the same amount?

The only thing I can think of is with a new ATV you can buy on payments and with used you have to pay cash in total. Sounds odd but New can be less strain on the pocket book.

here's another post from a dealer about the kazuma jaguar.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I started selling the jaguar 500 in june 2007. I received 4 of them in stock. The first one I sold there has not been any problems with it. The second one I sold the customer drove it 2 miles and the camshaft seized on it. That happened the end of june and I am still waiting for parts for it. I ended up giving the customer one of my other ones. He was able to get 40 miles out of it before the motor went on it. At this point I am just furious and had my supplier send me a new motor in exchange for the old one. This also happened at the end of june and I just received the motor this past monday. I also am needing a new carburetor and cluster guage as well but who knows when they will come in. Now on the third jaguar 500 I have I decided that I need to take it for a test drive. I drove for 1 mile and lost all compression on it. Since this happened I have not even oppened it up to see what is all wrong with it. I figure there is no use until I am able to get some parts back for my other ones. Is anybody else having these issues or am I the only one that happened to get three bad machines

With the economy everyone is selling their quads cheap. You can pick up a decent sport or 4x4 quad for 2-3k. And parts are readily available. I am only considering a no name quad for my sons first gas powered ATV..but even w/ that I may spend the extra cash and get a brand name one...
