Buy a 48" 7 year old a 50 or 90?
#1
Wow buying a kid an ATV is a lot harder than I thought. I have a 7 year old that is exactly 48" tall. Should I buy him a 50 or a 90? I keep reading everywhere that only 12 year olds and older can ride a 90. He is not a huge risk taker. Average coordination. Mostly riding in back yard but would like him to be able to take on trail sometimes.
Looking for advice and the experience of others.
Thanks!

I wouldn't go so much by the engine size as I would on how he fits on either one. You can limit the throttle, so that takes care of too much speed.
You don't want to cramp him on one, but you also want to make sure he can comfortably reach all the controls.
You definitely need to check the rules in your area. And make sure to get all the protective gear for him as well.
Also keep in mind how kids grow. Just like buying an expensive pair of shoes that they outgrow in a year, you don't want to buy one then have to get another one next year.
But that could be used as an excuse to get you BOTH a new one

I would look at a 90 for sure I started on an 80 when I was that age so i dont think it should be a problem. And a 80 or 90 should fit him pretty well, I would look at the raptor 80, predator 90, and any others that are in that size and with a dealer close to you.

my 5 year old is on a e-ton 90 and she handeles it very well. I think this summer I will do some mods.we started her out on a power wheels quad then I put 2 batterys in parellel to take it from 12 to 24 volts and when she started jumping it over her brother we knew it was time for something faster.I went with a 90 cause the 50 was same size as the power wheels.

I Have a 90 and a 50 that both my boys switch and ride. the only problem My 7 year old has with riding the 90 is the handbreaks are alittle to big for him to handle comfortably, other than that he is fine but he has also been riding for 4 years. I keep the 50 for him to ride because some places we ride that is the only one he can legally ride.
