Default Gel Pack

I bought a Meerkat 50 this past summer for my 5yr old. He rode it problably a dozen times through out the summer. Now it won't start all the time and when I get it running it dies on him when he slows down or comes to a stop. My question is could the gel pack still be in the carb after this long? That is about the only thing I haven't checked......

You will need to remove the carb bowl and remove both jets and clean them it sounds like a pilot jet problem

Not a chance the gel pack is still in there but something it sounds like something is plugging your carb. Like itch said you need to remove and clean the carb. Unless its still got the stock spark plug in it and then you might be able to fix it with a NGK C7HSA.
