Default E-ton Viper 90R CDI

I just bought a used 2005 Viper 90R that had no spark. The price was right so I couldn't refuse it. I've done some preliminary investigations and cannot find anything that is "obviously" wrong. I've even looked at the stator thinking that maybe it had gotten wet since I've heard that E-tons and water don't mix. The quad turns over just fine but the shift indicator on the dash doesn't light up telling me what gear it's in and it just isn't getting any spark. Upon looking into the CDI on it, it appears the CDI controls everything from shifting to spark.....you name it it controls it. There are a ton of wires and connectors coming off that sucker too. I suppose that's why these 90R's are plagued with the electrical gremlins that I've been reading about.

Anyway, I'm asking you guys/gals out there that are more familiar with these E-ton 90R's for some advice. Should I go ahead and spring for the 85.00 CDI and hope that fixes it or should I be looking for something else that's wrong?

By the way....when I move the shift lever from F to N to R, nothing happens at all, not even a sound from the electrical motor that drives the shift mechanism. It's pretty much dead all over other than a good strong crank when you hit the starter. Oh...the lights come on too.

Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

I recently bought a ETON 50 that did not fire and the problem was the Oil Tank sensor was not working. I disconnected the switch and it started firing. You may want to give that a try. The plug is under the seat on the left side by the tank.

Thanks. I'll give it a try. I've tried everything else so why not. I've been dragging my feet on ordering a new CDI in hopes that someone will have some advice.

When our Viper 90R was doing the same thing it turned out to be the arrestor was clogged. Then we also found out the ignition switch went bad. Check out this troubleshooter on Etons at this website. It helped us even when the shop didn't know the problem.

Hope it helps.

This has happened to my sons 90r last year it turned out to be the gear selector switch on the handlebars. Once we changed it you could hear the mechinism switch gears, then it fired right up. I keep a extra one in the TH at all times. Hope this helped

Thanks but that has already been fixed by the shop and it still is working. But it does look like the problem is the AC Generator. We found this site that has a troubleshooter and also sales the parts. You may want to check it out sometime.
