Im new on this site and it seems very informative. Just thought id try it out! Hopefully someone can help!!
I just bought this bike in October of 2007. Im having trouble starting the bike after sitting for a few days. I changed the gas, changed the plug and the fuel filter and still having trouble! Once i give it a shot or two of starting fluid it usually starts but im getting kinda tired of pulling the plug everytime i take the bike out. Other than that the bike runs great!
NEED HELP!

welcome to the fourm. and thanks for not coming on here and bashing the quad. questions help bashing dont.
do you turn off the gas after ridding it? is there a auto or manual choke? are you using the choke? have you tryed to clean the carb? may be something in there sticking.

Hi jmc1116, I would also like to welcome you. As for the starting problem, onebigzj is right on target with the things to look at. After just a month or two the fuel starts to form varnish. This varnish can partially plug jets in the carburator. When the jets become partially plugged, starting can be real difficult. Adding fresh gas is good but it won't unclog the jets in the carb. Your problem ,no doubt to me, sounds like this is the issue.
I would take the carb apart, taking note of how the carb is assembled. Remove the jets and clean them out with some carb cleaner and compressed air. To help prevent this in the future, purchase some fuel stabilizer from Walmart or any automotive store and add this to the gas in the tank. The brand I buy is called STA-BIL.

Thanks for getting back to me so fast! I do have to say that i dont turn the gas off most of the time. I did notice in the fuel line filter that there is an air bubble in the filter before i try and start it. Could that be part of the problem? I didnt try cleaning the carb. I just figured being that it was a brand new bike and it shouldnt need cleaned.
I probably only went through a half tank of gas since i bought the bike. I will try what you said and shut the gas off after getting it started. Hopefully that will work!
Thanks
I will get back to ya!!

Clogged pilot jets are a big problem these days on carbureted bikes. the ethanol now used as an oxygenator (10% in most areas) causes quick evaporation of the fuel, collect attracts moisture and causes a fungus to grow quickly on brass jets. Pilot jet openings are really tiny and can clog in a matter of a week. I'd recommend atabil as metioned above and also drain float bowl if your not going to use it for awhile or at least shut fuel off and run carb out of gas.
