Default Hi-Bird Atv Power

Hello all,
I'm a newbie here posting, but have read just about every topic here.Anyway I'm having a problem with a Hi-Bird 250stw atv that I bought a month ago.Its running like a car thats low on transmission fluid. Its winding out with no power.Could it be the clutch. If anyone can help,it would very much be appreciated.

What kind of motor oil do you have in it? It could be a clutch problem. Does it rev up without a corresponding increase in speed?

I'm using rotella 15w 40, but thats not it because thats the reason I changed the oil. When I press on the throttle the rpms go up but no power. My driveway has a small incline and I'll back it down the driveway about 60ft and it has no power to go back up.If I stay on the throttle it will eventually make it back up the driveway.I don't think its the carb.I would think if its the clutch I wouldn't be able to crank it in gear by pressing the clutch and key.I have no clue but I'll be finding out if I have to tear the whole thing apart.

I think you have the wrong oil in your unit. These things all use the same oil as in Yamahas or whatever. But it is not just regular motor oil. It is a special oil for quads that has the right formula for the clutch. I use taht Rotella in my Deisel truck ! Just go to any bike shop and ask them for what you need. It uses the same oil in the crankcase and primary drive.

Thanks Whiskers for the reply.Someone on another topic said that rotella is the same as the other oils in the other atvs.My atv started doing this before I changed the oil.But I'll try the other oil, just to see.

Have you adjusted the Clutch (cable)? If it's not adjusted correctly it will do this very thing!

Hey, KCzukiman ! I just spotted your avitar in another thread and thought the same thing. I've been reading threads but the old Tornado thread got quiet. I tell ya, my wifes hi bird still goes great and my panther is even better. I'm slower but still ridin! You keep well!
